NBA Trade Rumor: Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets
I just wrote my predictions on where Carmelo Anthony will be traded and the Nets were tied for second. Well, what a difference a few hours makes.
It now appears that the New Jersey Nets have became the front-runner to land Carmelo in a trade. League sources have reported that Carmelo is willing to sign a contract extension with the Nets and that they are willing to trade Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Kris Humphries, and a minimum of one first-round pick to obtain Melo's services.
Mikhail Prokhorov has stated that he is starting a dynasty in New Jersey, and while that's a little premature, adding Carmelo Anthony to the roster will be a start.
Melo would join a Nets team that has a solid young point guard in Devin Harris and a potential All-Star center, Brook Lopez. The Nets could probably go from one of the bottom feeders in the NBA to a 40-win team in just one season. They could perform similar to the way that the Oklahoma City Thunder did in turning around their team just a season ago.
If they do happen to get a deal done for Melo, they will still need to add some talent to compete for a championship, but they're headed in the right direction.
There is a lot of speculation on when a deal would take place. Many say it could happen after the season starts, but personally, I feel that a deal will be done in the next week or so. The Nets want to get Melo to New Jersey as soon as possible, and it's obvious that the Denver Nuggets realize that they don't have much of a chance of keeping him, so they're ready to get something in return for him while they still can.
