Ole Miss Football: Has The Nutt Finally Cracked? Ole Miss Worst in SEC

Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) My, how the world turns in just one season. Last year, Ole Miss was picked by many to win the Western Division of the SEC and play in the SEC championship game, and at this point this season, they are officially the worst team in the SEC.

And that is with Jeremiah Masoli guiding the team. Can you imagine how poorly they would be without him?

Perhaps now you'll understand the hearty hoorah that sounded from Arkansas when they finally let Houston Nutt go. No one in Fayetteville seemed to mind letting go a man that had brought them a good measure of success.

Maybe they knew the Nutt was cracked, but Ole Miss thought they had found a savior after his first two seasons, only now to see themselves as the dead fish stinking up the SEC.

With losses to a non-division school and the former worst team in the SEC, Ole Miss has now sunk to a new low.

The problem is now how this can and will affect future recruiting, as Ole Miss now struggles to portray itself as anything other than an SEC team circling the drain.

And this is the one and only year that Masoli is going to be there. It seems now that Nutt put his reputation and his goodwill with the NCAA out there for nothing.

In yesterday's game, Masoli was the entire offense, but it was far too little. His 104 yards rushing more than doubled that of the real running back, and was more than the entire team put together. That is something that shouldn't happen.

Had the NCAA not granted Masoli to play on Ole Miss' appeal, can you realize just how pitiful they would look right now?

This is the year that the "Houston Nutt Recruits" were to start taking the leadership roles. So are you telling me that he could only win with Ed Orgeron's boys? This was the man widely considered to have been the worst SEC coach in a dozen years.

Ole Miss will now finish with a losing schedule, and begin to realize that Houston Nutt may have been the man they hoped for and start looking around the landscape for something or someone a little better.
