Georgia Bulldogs Ready To Take a Bite Out of the Arkansas Razorbacks
This Saturday, the SEC takes center stage with a great match up between the undefeated, 12th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks and the Georgia Bulldogs.
BetMania has the latest college football odds for this game, and the Razorbacks are listed as three-point underdogs.
This is an interesting line considering that Arkansas is undefeated but the history between these two teams will tell the story.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The Razorbacks have lost six straight in the series against the Bulldogs and the last time they won a game was 1993. History is not the only obstacle for the Razorbacks as they have to deal with an injury to starting running back/kick returner Dennis Johnson.
Johnson was injured internally last week and it was described as a “bowel injury” by the team. He will not be suited up for this game, and the Hogs will have to rely even more on Heisman candidate quarterback Ryan Mallett.
Mallett has been outstanding in the first two games passing for 700 yards and six touchdowns, but there is still work to be done.
The offense has had issues running the ball, and they have turned the ball over three times in each game. If they turn over the ball at that rate against the Bulldogs, they will leave Athens with another loss.
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia enters this game with one loss in the SEC already, as they dropped a game last week at South Carolina. This game becomes important to avoid a 0-2 start in the always-competitive SEC.
Redshirt freshman Aaron Murray has been a solid signal caller for the Bulldogs and he has yet to play with star wide receiver, A.J. Green.
Green was suspended for selling a game-used jersey, but head coach Mark Richt and the school are appealing the decision. If the appeal is successful Green could suit up as early as this week and bring a huge boost to the Georgia offense.
The running game may get a boost as well. Richt has decided that Washaun Ealey and Caleb King will alternate carries for the first time this season. This will allow for a rested runner to always be on the field.
Richt also challenged his defense after his offensive and defensive lines struggled against South Carolina. This will inspire the front lines to play better and complement a solid linebacker corps.
Georgia is deep at linebacker with Justin Houston, Cornelius Washington, Akeem Dent and Christian Robinson all playing well early in the season.
Game Time Prediction
The Hogs will be without Johnson in this game, but have three other running backs that will attempt to fill the void.
This game is very important for Arkansas since it is the beginning of a brutal four-game stretch. After this game, the Razorbacks host No. 1 Alabama next week, play Texas A&M on the road, and head to No. 16 Auburn in mid-October.
The Hogs have revenge heading into this game, but it’s hard to believe that some of the players won’t have an eye on next week’s game against the top team in the country.
Georgia is in a better position to win this game with the home-field advantage. Arkansas has not had a true test on defense, have had trouble running the ball, and have a tendency to turn it over. These are three things that are a recipe for disaster.
The Razorbacks are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games in September and Georgia will get the better of the Hogs again.
Final: Georgia 26, Arkansas 24
