Why Lane Kiffin Is the Most Overpaid, Overrated Coach in America
So USC is off to a 2-0 start to the season. I can't say I'm impressed.
Head coach Lane Kiffin says he won't complain about penalty calls anymore. That's great. You know what would be better is if Kiffin actually didn't speak the rest of the season.
Why is he even the head coach at USC anyways?
Has any coach who's accomplished absolutely nothing as a head coach received so much press and publicity. Kiffin is way over-hyped and over-paid.
What were the Trojans thinking? When the sanctions and penalties are all served. USC still will have a huge problem in two seasons. It's the fact that Kiffin will be their head coach.
Kiffin's failures on the sidelines speaks for itself.
Including his 2-0 start to this season, the loud-mouthed Kiffin has compiled a career 14-21 record as a head coach; including stops with the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers and now at USC.
After Pete Carroll's exit following the 2009 season, the Trojans could have had any coach in the land. They had their choice, because nine out of ten coaches would have dumped their current team for USC. The same way Kiffin dumped Tennessee.
Even when the possible sanctions were hanging over their head, they still could have had their choice of coaches to lead the program.
Instead of a coach with a proven track record, they turn to this guy, who's accomplished nothing.
If there is one thing Kiffin has shown to be true, it's that he can mouth off with the best of them.
There was the spat with Al Davis. The public spat with Urban Meyer. The ridiculous "Rocky Top" comments. Without his loud, obnoxious mouth, no one would even know who Kiffin is.
Here's some advice. 'Shut Up!" Don't talk again until you've accomplished something. If you want to talk again then win. Win a title and I will say I was wrong.
The worst part is that in addition to being a lousy head coach, Kiffin is not a stand up guy either. Just ask the state of Tennessee.
USC chose this guy to replace Pete Carroll? If anything, he should be carrying Carroll's bags and nothing more.
Not only that, the Trojans are paying this guy over $4mil per season. It must be nice to be rewarded for being terrible at your job. It also must be nice cashing in on your daddy's reputation.
Kiffin is the most below average thing going in today's college football. He's selfish, he's arrogant and he's not a very football coach.
Anything Kiffin accomplishes now will be with Pete Carroll's team, but that can quickly turn around. If Kiffin can do one thing, it's recruit. It's something he obviously would excel at with all of the BS that comes spewing out of his mouth.
The Trojans will never be short on talent on the field, but will always likely be short on talent on the sidelines, as long as Kiffin is around.
"We got out-coached," Kiffin said after his Trojans barely beat Virginia 17-14 (at home).
Get used to it. It will happen a lot.
