Drogba, Rooney, Torres.... Who Will Win The Premiership Golden Boot For 2010/11?

Karl MatchettSep 14, 2010

The Premier League is filled with quality attackers in almost every team these days; from the young newcomers such as Andy Carroll at Newcastle, regular scorers of goals like Darren Bent of Sunderland, and genuine world-class superstars along the lines of Chelsea's Drogba, Liverpool's Torres and Manchester United's Rooney.

Manchester City could almost have their own team made up of only forwards with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Jo, Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor all fighting for starting berths.

In any one game any or all of these players are capable of being in the right place at the right time and putting away the chances to win three points for their team - but which do you think will end up as top scorer over all?

Remember this is for Premiership goals only, not European or Cup goals as well. And just as importantly, how many goals do you think is a realistic expectation for a Golden Boot winner these days?

Drogba top-scored last season with 29 strikes but the season before only 19 goals was enough to win it for Nicholas Anelka, also of Chelsea.

Since 1997/98 season the 30-goal landmark has only been reached 3 times and not since 1999/00 has an English striker won the award - Kevin Phillips being the last.

Post your predictions of player and number of goals below and come the end of the season we'll see who was closest.

Personally I am going to be optimistic and plump for my own team's centre forward Fernando Torres to put his injury problems behind him and come up with 26 goals for the Reds this season - hopefully propelling us into the Champions League places in the process!

Below is a list of some of the biggest attacking threats in the league as a helpful reminder!
