Michigan vs. Notre Dame Preview
It's rivalry time folks! For some reason though I believe most Michigan fans are not as concerned about this game as they are the MSU or OSU game, but its an important game none the less. Its important for both teams. Both would like to get off to a 2-0 start and set themselves up nicely for a potential bowl bid.
What to look for when Michigan has the ball
Expect to see Michigan running the ball early and often like last week. This isn’t one of the old Michigan power run teams, but this Michigan team looks like it can run the ball very well. The strength may very well be up front with the offensive line. They not only protected Robinson very well last week, but also provided many running lanes for whoever was carrying the rock. Robinson showed off his passing talents last week which surprised many as he was very efficient. Look for more of the same with Michigan hitting quick hitters, play actions, and moving the pocket.
What to look for when Notre Dame has the ball
Look for Notre Dame to test the Michigan secondary right out of the gate. I expect Kyle Rudolf to have a big game. Michigan will blitz some linebackers to try to get pressure on Dayne Crist which will cause Michigan’s safeties to attempt to cover the talented TE. I do not expect them to be able to. If Michigan doesn’t bring much of a blitz, then Crist should be able to pick apart the young Wolverines secondary. Armando Allen also should be able to find some running lanes and use his speed to make some big plays.
Prediction Time
This game should be fun to watch. I think both teams' defenses will have trouble stopping the opposing offense. With Michigan’s running attack, I feel they will be able to control the game and keep that suspect defense off the field some. Some people feel the Michigan defense is much improved, but I still have questions. As good as the Michigan offense was last week was as bad as the UCONN offense was. They dropped passes at key times and QB Zach Frasier was inconsistent. Notre Dame’s defense also had its troubles last week. One in particular was keeping Purdue QB Marve in the pocket at times, which should be a concern since Denard Robinson jogs faster than Marve runs. I think Robinson plays well again this week and leads Michigan to a close victory.
PREDICTION : 28-24 MICHIGAN
