2010 Ryder Cup: Padraig Harrington Makes a Bid To Rediscover Ryder Cup Form
With the Ryder Cup fast approaching, Padraig Harrington has finally made a decision that should please European captain Colin Montgomerie. He has decided to rejoin the European Tour in order to regain something approaching the sort of form that he enjoyed in his career up until a couple of years ago.
Ever since Harrington's place in the side was revealed, fans and pundits have criticised the decision and suggested Paul Casey should have been picked instead. This element of distrust in Monty's decision is also reflected in the Ryder Cup 2010 odds for Harrington to end up as the European side's top points scorer come the end of the hotly-anticipated competition.
Justin Rose is another competitor who will be watching the Ryder Cup with a sense of confusion as to what he needs to do to earn himself a place in Montgomerie's side, but Harrington will be hopeful of winning over critics such as Ian Woosnam, who sees him as an unwanted element of an otherwise strong side.
With the Ryder Cup 2010 betting making Europe strong favourites, Harrington could be shown up by the exploits of his team-mates unless he shines as well.
Should he fail to find the form he is looking to recapture this year, Harrington will never be able to treat qualification for the Ryder Cup in the same laissez-faire manner again after repeatedly refusing to heed calls from Montgomerie to earn himself automatic qualification.
With Europe expected to triumph with relative ease, fans will demand nothing less than a dominant victory over a US team has left American supporters wondering how on earth they will retain the cup they won back in 2008.
