College Football Weekend Highlights Through Video
Writing about the great moments of Week 1 is fun, but what makes it even better is watching video from some of the best plays.
It would be nice to show you highlights like LSU's Patrick Peterson with an 87-yard punt return against North Carolina (does anyone know where to find it?), but the SEC limits video from its games.
Also, ESPN restricts the embedding capabilities of its video. So here are some of the best that could be found.
Holy Julio Jones
1 of 9Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones has made his fair share of highlight plays.
But his one-handed TD catch in a 48-3 victory over San Jose State has to rank up there with his best.
Nutts, That Hurts
2 of 9Expectations were not too high at Ole Miss this fall, but no one expected Jacksonville State to pull off an improbable OT win at Oxford, Miss.
LSU, Les Miles Lucky Not to Lose
3 of 9With LSU leading 30-10 in Atlanta, most TV viewers turned their attention to the TCU-Oregon State game (which was a good one).
However, North Carolina was mounting a serious comeback that fell a T.J. Yates pass short of miraculous.
Florida's Jeff Demps Shows off Freakish Speed
4 of 9While the Florida Gators were putting on its worst offensive performance in the Urban Meyer era, there was a bright spot that couldn't go overlooked.
Running back Jeff Demps has amazing speed, and he looks even faster pulling away from the inferior talent of the Miami RedHawks.
No QB Controversy at Michigan
5 of 9Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson punched his Michigan Man membership card with a flashy season opener against UConn in the Big House.
Shoelaces tied or not, Robinson just may single-handedly save Rich Rodriguez' job in Ann Arbor.
Keep Those Fluids Flowing
6 of 9Norfolk State was facing an uphill battle already by traveling to Rutgers, but then the defense had six players go down with cramping issues during a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive by the Scarlet Knights.
It may have been muggy, but did this team do any preseason conditioning? (HT: Dr. Saturday)
MWC's Big Day
7 of 9Six of the nine Mountain West Conference schools started the 2010 season with victories this week.
Not every opponent was top notch, but TCU, BYU and Utah each had signature victories.
The MWC has to be taken seriously and should be elevated to BCS status soon, even with BYU and Utah leaving the conference.
Will UCLA Ever Be Good Again?
8 of 9UCLA is facing the real possibility of opening the season 0-4 following an unexpected 31-22 loss at Kansas State.
The Bruins' Kevin Prince once again showed why he's probably not good enough to start at a Division I program after completing 9-of-26 passes.
East Carolina Hail Mary!
9 of 9Speaking of coaching debuts, Ruffin McNeill may have had the best.
East Carolina was down to its final play with seconds remaining when quarterback Dominique Davis connected with 6'8" Justin Jones for a game-winning touchdown.
Now that's a way to begin your coaching career.
