Arkansas Razorbacks Football Serious About Game With Tennessee Tech

Tennessee Tech At No. 17 Arkansas

Week 1 NCAA Football, 7:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, September 4, 2010,

TV: ESPN 3, Game plan

Latest College Football Line: (no line for this game)

When defensive coordinator Willy Robinson was approached by someone in the media about the first game of the season and referred to opponent Tennessee Tech as a “tune up game”, Robinson expressed his displeasure. “This is a game for us. You can call it what you want. This is a game for us. We don’t look ahead to any other games. How could you even make that comment? This is not a tune-up game. This is a game.” The Hogs are taking this game and Tech seriously.

Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino is also taking discipline seriously.

Fullback Van Stumon and offensive lineman Anthony Oden have both suspended for the season opener. Both players were arrested in the offseason for alcohol-related incidents and the suspension stems from those digressions. Tight end Austin Tate is listed as the first-team fullback on the depth chart, and running back Knile Davis will see some time in the position on certain packages.

On the field Arkansas is looking forward to a great season. Ryan. Mallet postponed a career in the NFL to return for another season to lead the Razorbacks to a possible national championship season. The run to a championship starts on Saturday night and the offense is deep and talented and ready to go. The defense will get plenty of looks in the first game.

The Hogs return five out of the top seven tacklers from a year ago and bring an advantage that other defenses don’t have. They get to practice against one of the best offensives in the country when they practice against Mallett and company.

Prediction For First Game

3 of 4

The Arkansas coaching staff won’t admit it, but they should have no problem disposing of Tennessee Tech. They finished just 6-5 last year and were destroyed when they faced opponent s out of conference losing by a combined score of 87-7. Tech brings back 55 lettermen from last season including 16 starters but loses arguably the best player in record setting quarterback Lee Sweeny.

Head coach Watson Brown has a good base of young talent to work with but he won’t be able to keep this game close.

Arkansas makes a statement to the SEC and the country that they are ready to compete for a championship.
