Attention Oregon Duck Fans: 10 Things That Will Happen in 2010
As the countdown towards kickoff gets closer, questions fill college football fans heads. Here are ten things that will happen for the Oregon Ducks in the 2010 season.
Autzen Stadium sellout streak continues
1 of 10
The Ducks will enter the year with a 71 game sellout streak. The streak that started in 1999 will continue through 2010.
Masoli story lasts all year
2 of 10
The story that all Duck fans hope will go away is the Masoli offseason saga. Sorry Duck fans, the story will run all year and dont be surprised to see it referenced every week.
If Masoli was out of college football, this story could have run dry but with his transfer to Ole Miss, this story will go the distance.
Civil War will have no Rose Bowl implications
3 of 10
For the past two years, a birth in the Rose Bowl has been up for grabs during the Civil War.
In 2008, the Beavers needed a home win to go and were denied in a big way by the Ducks. In 2009, the winner moved on and the Ducks once again denied the Beavers but also punched their ticket.
In 2010, the Beavers will be breaking in a new starting quarterback and will be out of the race come time for the Civil War and due to tie breakers, the Ducks will already have the Pac-10 race won by then.
Jake Locker ends career 0-4 versus Oregon
4 of 10
If you are looking to hear about how great Jake Locker and the Huskies will be this year, your in the wrong place. With the hype machine running overtime, Locker and Washington will head to Eugene and leave with Locker's fourth straight loss to the Ducks.
BONUS PREDICTION: Locker throws more picks then touchdowns against the Ducks.
Kenny Rowe ends year with 15+ sacks
5 of 10
Last year Kenny Rowe had an impressive 11.5 sack season. This year, Duck fans will continue to see him fly around opposing quarterbacks and rack up more sacks then last year.
LaMichael James wins Pac-10 rushing crown
6 of 10
While LaMichael James is no longer Oregon's best kept secret, he is being overshadowed by cross state rival, Jacquizz Rogers.
Even with being suspended for the season opener against New Mexico, a team that James could truly rack up yards against, James will still lead the Pac-10 in rushing yards.
Jeff Maehl will not be Ducks leading receiver
7 of 10
In 2009, Jeff Maehl led the Ducks in receptions, yards and touchdowns. While he will still put up great numbers in 2010, D.J. Davis will step up in a huge way and lead the Ducks receiving core.
The reason for this is simple. Masoli's style of play meshed well with Maehl's backyard improvisation. With either Costa or Thomas under center, the offense will follow the play more often then not, which will lend itself to a route runner like Davis.
Ducks win minimum of 10 games
8 of 10
Looking at the schedule, the toss up games in Oregon's schedule all occur on the road. They play at Tennessee, at USC, at Cal and at Oregon State. If the Ducks hold serve at home, they will need to find a way to win half of these tough road games. Not only will then win two of them, I believe they will win three out of the four.
Oregon ends year with top defense in the Pac-10
9 of 10
With the loss of both T.J. Ward and Walter Thurmond to the NFL Draft, many may believe that the Oregon defense may be in for a letdown. Not only will the Oregon defense quickly replace those stars, but they will be the top defense in the Pac-10 in 2010.
Darron Thomas starts Oregon's bowl game
10 of 10
This doesn't necessarily mean that Darron Thomas will start the year. My belief is that Thomas does have the talent to start and lead this team but also that Nate Costa may continue to run into injury issues.
Costa has been a great but sad story his entire time at Oregon. Costa has come back from multiple knee surgeries but my belief is that in a wide open offense like Oregon's spread, the quarterback is vulnerable to big hits which could cause issues for Costa.
