UEFA Champions League Group Stage Draw Live Blog With Comment, Analysis

Group A: Inter Milan, Werder Bremen, Tottenham, Twente.

Group B: Lyon, Benfica, Schalke, Hapoel Tel-Aviv.

Group C: Manchester United, Valencia, Rangers, Bursapor.

Group D: Barcelona, Panathinaikos, Copenhagen, Rubin Kazan.

Group E: Bayern Munich, Roma, Basel, CFR Cluj.

Group F: Chelsea, Marseille, Spartak Moscow, Zilina.

Group G: AC Milan, Real Madrid, Ajax, Auxerre.

Group H: Arsenal, Shakhtar Donestsk, Braga, Partizan.

18:01 - That is all eight groups set and all the English teams will be happy, but Spurs have been dealt a tough group.

Diego Milito was named as the European Club Footballer of the Year. Inter Milan made up all five of the winners.

17:57 - Second last out is Twente who go directly into group , leaving Partizan to go into Group H.

17:55 - Rubin Kazan are out next and they go into Group D, with Bracelona again.

After Kazan is Zilina who go into Group F. Next out is Hapoel Tel-Aviv who go into B.

17:51 - The first team out is CFR Cluj and they go into group E. They are followed by Buraspor who go into Group C.

Auxerre are out and they going into Group G, which is looking to be the group of death.

17:50 - The last teams of each group will be drawn from Pot 4 now.

17:47 - The European Club Forward of the Year is up next and the nominees are Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Inter Milan's Diego Milito and United's Wayne Rooney.

And that explains why Messi was not in the last group of nominees.

The European Club Forward of the Year is Diego Milito, which I must say is a slight shock.

17:45 - Second last out are Ajax, who go automatically into Group G, which is tough. That leaves Schalke with Group E

17:42 - Spartak Moscow are next and they are in Group F with Chelsea and Marseille.

Basel are out next and they are in Group E. Followed by Braga who go in Group H with Arsenal. 

17:41 - Copenhagen are the second team out and the club from Denmark are in Group D.

The third team out is Tottenham and go directly into Group A with reigning Champions Inter Milan and Werder Bremen.

17:39 - The Pot 3 draw is next. And the first team out is Rangers. The Scottish Champions are drawn in Group C.

Alex Ferguson could not be happier with how this draw has gone thus far.

17:36 - The European Club Midfielder of the Year is next up. the nominees are Barcelona's Xavi, Bayern's Arjen Robben and Inter's Wesley Sneijder. My money is on the latter of the Dutchmen.

The European Club Midfielder of the Year is Wesley Sneijder. Well deserved, but I am surprised that Messi was not one of the three nominees.

17:33 - Panathinaikos are drawn out in Group D.

Next out are Marseille and they can only go into Group F. Leaving Group A for Werder Bremen.

17:31 - Benfica are next out and they will go into Group B with Lyon.

The next team out are Shakhtar Donetsk. They will go into Group H with the Gunners.

17:30 - Third team out are Roma and they will go into Group E.

17:29 - First team out form Pot 2 is Valencia and they will go into Group C with Man United.

The next team out are Spanish once again. Real Madrid will go into Group G with AC Milan for the second year in a row.

17:54 - Next task at hand is the awarding of the European Defender of the Year. The nominees are Lucio of Inter Milan, his teammate Maicon and Gerard Pique of Barcelona. My money is on the best right back in the world, Maicon.

The European Club Defender of the Year is Maicon, and well deserved.

17:22 - Julio Cesar just pulled out his own team, and they are only able to go in Group A due to AC Milan being in the later four groups.

Second last out are Arsenal, and they are in Group H. Leaving Group F for Chelsea

17:19 - Last year's losing finalists Bayern Munich are next out and they are in Group E.

Lyon are the fifth team out. The have been drawn in Group B.

17:18 - The second side out is Barcelona. They are in Group D.

AC Milan are next out and they are in Group G

17:15 - God how many times do they have to explain the rulings on how the draw is done.

The first team drawn is Manchester United, and they are placed in Group C.

17:11 - It has only taken 12 or 13 minutes or the draw to start, that is not too bad I suppose for UEFA.

17:06 - The first award to be handed out is for the European Club Goalkeeper of the Year. The nominees are Inter Milan's Julio Cesar, who is mostly likely going to be the winner, Lyon's Hugo Lloris and Barcelona's Victor Valdes.

The European Club Goalkeeper of the Year is Julio Cesar.

17:04 - The European Club Footballer Of The Year will be named tonight and my money is on Wesley Sneijder, although I would not be surprised to see Lionel Messi take it.

17:00 - Pot 4 holds some tricky customers with Rubin Kazin, who beat Barcelona last year, along with Dutch champions Twente.

And the show is on the road, lets see how long before the first team is drawn.

16:55 - It would be very interesting to see Manchester United draw Real Madrid. The return of Alex versus Jose. As well as Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford. Of course it is set-up perfectly to see Inter Milan and Real Madrid be drawn in the same group.

16:45 - There is just a few minutes until proceedings get underway, but of course there will be some mic happy person who tries his best to bore us to death before getting the draw started.

16:40 - I think the teams in each pot just shows how stupid and unfair that this whole "seeding" really is. Dutch Champions Twente are stuck in pot 4, and therefore have a strong chance of being dealt a really hard group.

Ajax who finished second to Twente are in the group ahead of them.

16:35 - It is safe to say that Real Madrid are the team to avoid for everyone in Pot 1. I think with all due respect that AC Milan and Lyon will be most teams hope from Pot 1.

The timeline will be GMT - as I am from Dublin - and the draw will begin at 17:00 GMT from Monaco.

The Pots are as follows:

Pot 1: Inter Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Lyon 

Pot 2: Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Valencia, Marseille, Panathinaikos

Pot 3: Tottenham, Rangers, Ajax, Schalke, Basel, Brage, Copenhagen, Spartak Moscow,

Pot 4: Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Twente, Rubin Kazan, Auxerre, CFR Cluj, Partizan, Zilina, Bursapor

The draw will occur as follows: One team from each pot will make up eight, four-team groups. No team from the same country can be draw in the same group.
