2010 College Football Conference Predictions From WhatIfSports
Grab a beer from the fridge, order a pizza and heat up some nachos as pre-game sports' producers put the finishing touches on their college football video montage complete with “O Fortuna” soundtrack.
The popular anthem's beating drums will awake the sleeping giants of the NCAA as the 2010 regular season commences the first weekend of September.
So much has changed since we last left the sights and sounds of the BCS National Championship game. Alabama capitalized on the injury to Colt McCoy and never took its foot off the gas as the Tide cruised to a national title.
Since then, conferences have nearly folded, collegiate programs have pledged allegiance with rival leagues, universities have been slapped with sanctions for off-the-field shenanigans and yet, come September 2nd, little of that will matter.
Fans will forget about the extracurricular activity and the politics and just enjoy watching the X’s and the O’s, the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s.
The passion college football fans exude is unlike any other. That is why we here at Whatifsports.com have spent the last six weeks in our own version of two-a-days.
We’ve spent hours studying up on all 120 FBS schools – learning their strengths, their weaknesses, who they have coming back and which players have moved on. Our main objective has been to build the most reliable college football simulation engine
possible before September 2nd's first kickoff.
Whether the computer responds kindly to the statistical make-up of YOUR TEAM and YOUR PASSION is subject to debate and considering the e-mails I received during our 2010 NFL Previews, I have a feeling that debate may be fierce.
With that said, below you will find Whatifsports.com’s predicted records for each FBS conference. Every regular season game was simulated 57 times. Thousands of games were “played” before a snap hit the quarterback’s hands.
Now as the 2010 regular season plays out and statistics from Weeks one, two, three etc. are collected, our college football engine will have even more data to consume when running the simulations and generating weekly predictions.
Remember, we try to take as much bias out of the argument as possible, letting the stats tell the story and predict the game’s outcome.
Each Monday during the college football regular season (starting August 30th), Whatifsports.com will release its predictions for the week. Later in the day, we will release our weekly power rankings for all 120 FBS schools.
The best part is ALL our college football content (including predictions) is FREE.
Using our college football simulation engine
, Whatifsports.com simulated thousands of college football games to generate these conference predictions. Team ratings, player ratings and depth charts are accurate as of August 24th. What you see in the conference standings below are the most-likely outcome based on the computer simulations.
