EPL Preview: Manchester City vs. Liverpool

Man City’s high-profile striker Balotelli is expected to play despite picking up a minor injury in his Europa League debut for City. Milner is also looking increasingly likely to play; however, Boateng and Koralov remain out of action for the time being.

Liverpool have some worries in the form of Mascherano and Agger, who are both doubtful due to minor injuries and to make matters worse Joe Cole starts the beginning of the three-match ban he picked up after being red carded against Arsenal.

Both sides have started the season in an almost identical manner, drawing to north London opponents and winning their respective Europa League.

Both of these teams have yet to perform to a particularly high standard so far although this match may prove time for one of the sides to find their stride, then again with the history of rather anticlimactic draws between these two sides (five out of their last seven meetings to be precise) that doesn’t sound like an all too promising scenario.

City did have something of a good run of form when it came to home games last season although toward the end of the season their form did trail off.

These teams were both vastly effected by the performances of their goal keepers on opening day with Reina’s gaff costing Liverpool victory and City being rescued repeatedly by Hart’s fantastic performance, perhaps this match could become a tail of two goalkeepers.

This match is going to be hard to call, history may have us expecting a draw, but Man City are an ever changing side with a massive budget and some new high profile players at the club the results should be interesting here if nothing else.
