Bob Bradley Wants the Aston Villa Job

Tim FontenaultAug 22, 2010

USA National Team manager Bob Bradley may be leaving his post in order to become the next manager at Aston Villa.

ESPNSoccernet is reporting that there is mutual interest between Bradley and the Premier League club, but no offers have been discussed.

Bradley, 52, whose contract expires in December, has always wanted to manage in Europe and is excited about going after the Villa job.

Aston Villa have been on the hunt for a permanent manager for a couple weeks ever since Martin O'Neal walked out unexpectedly days before the start of the season.

"I think Aston Villa is a massive club with great history and a great following and those type of opportunities would of course be of interest," Bradley told BBC Radio Five Live. "I would certainly be honoured to have that conversation but I'm impressed with the way things have been handled so far and we'll see what the future holds."

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that the 2-0 loss to Brazil on August 10th would be Bradley's final match in charge. He was previously linked with the job at Fulham, now filled by Mark Hughes.

"I've always been excited about being a manager in Europe," he said, "but at the same time I'm proud of the work we've done with the US team over the last four years. It is important to consider that as a challenge as well. So we'll see what happens.

"There have been discussions with some of my representatives to at least find out the situation but Aston Villa seem to have taken a good stance where they have been patient.

"They have a very good man in Kevin MacDonald who is highly respected in the club so I think on the one hand they are probably putting a list together and on the other making sure Kevin has the time to consider his future as well. It has been handled very well.

"I had some people do some checking just to find out where things stood."

Since taking over the United States National Team following the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Bradley has lead the USA to a win in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, a second place finish in the FIFA Confederations' Cup, which included a win over Spain, and a trip to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2010.

Aston Villa have made no formal declarations of their intentions as of yet.

The US also have made no announcements about the future of Bradley, who currently is in place to manage the team on October 9th against Poland in Chicago. However, the world has been making its own speculations, with German Jurgen Klinsmann the popular favorite for the job which many expect Bradley to leave very soon.
