2010 College Football Predictions: Georgia Looks To Win Big

Zack LeeAug 21, 2010

Coming off a disappointing 8-5 season a year ago, the Georgia Bulldogs are looking to rebuild and rebound in hopes of righting the ship and improving their record from last year.

Georgia returns 10 starters on offense, with the the lone missing player being the most important on that side of the ball, the quarterback. Aaron Murray has stepped in to replace Joe Cox, who last year performed average at best for the team.

Murray, a red shirt freshman, is the highly touted quarterback from Tampa Plant High School in Florida. A lot of people have compared him to the likes of previous UGA quarterbacks DJ Shockley with his mobility and David Greene with his accuracy. Although he has yet to take a snap in an NCAA game, he has already made a big impact on the team.

Georgia looks to have one of the best offensive lines in the country this season led by Clint Boling, (who some have going in the top 10 NFL draft picks for 2011), and Ben Jones, the hard-nosed center for the Dawgs.

Returning offensive weapons for UGA include one of the most prolific wide receivers to ever play at the University of Georgia and arguably the best wide receiver in the NCAA this season, A.J. Green. After missing time last season due to minor injuries, Green is back to form, anxious to tear up opposing defenses and help the team win the SEC Championship.

Toting the rock for the Dawgs this season will be the two-headed monster that is Washaun Ealey and Caleb King. After torching both the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for 339 yards and the Texas A&M Aggies for 208 yards last year, this dynamic duo will look to better their numbers from last year and run the ball effectively in hopes to take some of the pressure off of the young quarterback Murray.

After the results of the past two weeks scrimmages, it looks as if Ealey will be the starter with King as his backup, although both backs will recieve the same amount of snaps.

Also helping out on the offensive side of the ball will be hybrid tight end Orson Charles, fullback Shaun Chapas, wide receivers Kris Durham (who missed the 2009 season with an injury), Rantavious Wooten, and Tavarres King among others.

Defensively, almost everything is different.

After firing then defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, Mark Richt filled the position with Todd Grantham, who comes to UGA from the NFL where he was the defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys. He brings to Georgia the 3-4 defense, which replaces the 4-3 that Georgia has run for so long.

With this new defense, Georgia's linebackers will be blitzing on every play, with the big question mark being who of the four are blitzing. Defensive players returning this season are Justin Houston, Cornelius Washington, Brandon Boykin, Bacarri Rambo, and Akeem Dent to name a few.

With a little more than two weeks away from the start of the season, the Georgia Bulldogs look to significantly improve their brand and win the SEC Championship this upcoming year.
