Will Brian Kelly Lead Notre Dame Back To The Promise Land?
New Head Coach Brian Kelly is expected the resurrect Notre Dame Football for many years to come. The program has not been a prestigious powerhouse in many years. Coaches such as Bob Davie, Ty Willingham, and Charlie Weis have failed to reach the lofty expectations of coaching in South Bend. Brian Kelly has a lot of pressure on him to succeed as head coach. Coach Kelly has been a winner everywhere he's coached. Dating back to his days at Grand Valley State (Division II) he displayed the qualities of becoming an elite coach. Recently he led the University of Cincinnati to two BCS bowl bids the past two seasons. His tenure at UC was very special. Coach Kelly worked with mediocre players and turned in them into All-Big East performers. Players such as Tony Pike, Mardy Gilyard, and Ben Guidulgli were unknowns in the football world until Kelly took over as coach.
Kelly will bring a high powered offense to South Bend along with a steady 3-4 defense. Brady Quinn Golden Tate and Jimmy Clausen may not be on the roster, but the offense will bring a different element compared to years past. The defense will rush the quarterback and display ball hawking defensive backs. When Kelly coached UC the defensive backfield were always near the top of the Big East rankings in interceptions.
Notre Dame is still a recruiting force in college football players around high schools know the tradition of the Fighting Irish. The recruiting will not be a problem and even if Brian Kelly recruits 3-star player they will flourish under his system. Notre Dame will benefit from USC's and Michigan's NCAA violations high school athletes may not want to attend those respective universities while they are under investigation. That will enable Notre Dame to beat those teams due to their rosters not being as strong as they were in years past. I know for a fact its better to play against C.J Gable than Reggie Bush.
The Fighting Irish may not become national champions, but they will command national respect. Brian Kelly is a genius of a head coach and he gets the best out of his players. There will be a lot scoring in South Bend , but it will result in victories unlike years past. Expectations are high, but he will live up to the hype. By the end of the season Regis Philbin will be smiling on national television talking about his alma mater. For the first time in a while it might actually be a good thing to be a Fighting Irish fan. If someone can make UC a respected football program the sky is the limit for Brian Kelly in South Bend.
