Oregon Ducks Will Unveil New Look This Year
In the upcoming season, the Oregon Ducks will be stepping onto the field with another new uniform combination that has never been seen. I know what you are thinking, didn't they just change their uniforms last year?
Well, yes, they did, and while they are not changing them this year, they will be wearing a new piece of equipment that was shown last year but never worn.
Last season, chrome was a color added to the Ducks uniforms but the helmet never found its way onto the Duck players. This year the Ducks will finally be wearing their new chrome lids.
Late last year it was reported that the helmets were good to go for the USC game, but Coach Kelly opted not to use them. Other reports have stated that the helmets, more specifically the paint, were experiencing issues in colder weather.
Throughout the offseason, players, coaches and media around the team have been hinting towards the helmet's use early in the year. Based on the idea that the paint may experience some issues in cold weather, it comes down to a three-game period in which these helmets will most likely be used.
The Ducks' first option would be their season opener against New Mexico. Fans will be ready for the new season to begin, and it could be a great way to get the team excited for what appears to be an easy game.
The big issue with this is that the game will not be televised outside of the northwest, and the Ducks love to show these changes off on national television.
The second option would be the game against Portland State two weeks later. This is the most unlikely option considering the opponent and the lack of attention that this game will receive, even from most Duck fans. Although the weather should be beautiful, don't expect to see the chrome helmets this game.
Last up, and the game in which I believe the Ducks will run out onto the field with their new helmets, is the September 11th game at Tennessee. The weather will be perfect, it is a huge non-conference game for both teams, and it will be on national television.
If the Ducks are looking for a warm weather game to debut their new helmets then Tennessee should be the game they have circled.
With all this being said, the Ducks will, at some point, be showing the nation their new chrome helmets, but in the next year or two we will already be talking about the new design Oregon is already working on.
Hopefully, the Ducks have the nation talking about their play on the field as much as what they wear.
