Arsenal Team Incomplete As They Near Start Of Season Against Liverpool.

Mohamed Eldin MasriAug 7, 2010

Now that Cesc Fabregas has finally declared his plan to stay with the Gunners for another season, Wenger and Arsenal must finish all the tasks required for the upcoming season.

Fabregas has announced that he is staying at Arsenal for at least another season, which is most likely his last with the team. Arsenal have had the unfortunate situation of having their captains leave in recent seasons, Vieira and Henry left the club for different reasons, and the last thing Arsenal need is to lose another captain.

Cesc Fabregas should have his captain's arm-band removed from him. While many Arsenal fans have received Cesc's announcement with ardor and fervor, his commitment towards Arsenal for the long-haul can, and will, be questioned. It is unlikely that Wenger will remove the arm-band, but Arsenal need a captain who is committed to the club, RVP and Vermaelen would be the most likely candidates, should Wenger decide to name a new captain.

Arsenal aren't complete. At the moment, at least, they are still missing key personel.

Arsene Wenger has still not brought in the goalkeeper Arsenal fans have been craving for, and are currently without defensive backup as well.

Wenger must get the money, exert it, and sign the defenders Arsenal need. The Arsenal consortium have been begging Wenger for a new goalkeeper, but the Arsenal manager recently stated that he has two decisions regarding the goalkeeper situation.

The first, was who to name as the first choice, and the second was to decide who should be loaned.

This means that Almunia has a chance of remaining as Arsenal's number one goalkeeper, a decision that will have every Arsenal fan dread the start of the new season and feel that their team is incomplete, and for good reason too. Almunia has saved Arsenal a few times, but his errors are deplorable at best.

The EPL and the Champions League stipulate that a team must have a world class goalkeeper to emerge victorious in them, and Arsenal have no such thing. Fabianski on the other hand shot be sold rather than loaned.

Wenger might be too stubborn to realize that Fabianski isn't good enough to play for a team like Arsenal. The young Pole has been considered censurable for the majority of the games he took part in. The game against Porto, in particular, left Arsenal fans in a daze. No one could be that bad, or at least the fans thought.

Wenger is forcing the fans to play a game of "Pick your poison," two keepers that no fan wants to choose from. Mannone is the best of the bunch, but Arsenal needs an experienced goalkeeper at the moment, and Mannone doesn't have the mentality to go 38 games in the league, at least not yet.

Arsenal also have a gaping hole in defense, with the departure of Gallas, Silvestre and Campbell, all three of them leaving the team and taking their glossy heads with them, Arsenal now need to sign a defender.

Arsene Wenger has already promoted Nordveit to the first team, and is expected to sign at least one more defender. Wenger is known for being meticulous in his transfers and is ever so famous for his sang froid behaviour regarding transfer deals. Fans can expect a deal to be finalized for a defender soon enough.

While Arsenal don't have cover for Song in the midfield, Wenger never did go into a season with a full squad, and no one expected that much from him.

Arsenal are expected to face Liverpool next week, and with the Gunners' recent game against Legia Warsaw, a game that saw Arsenal win by six goals to five, it is evident that Fabianski isn't good enough to guard Arsenal's goal. He didn't concede all six goals, however he was simply, as always, not good enough to be the Arsenal keeper at the moment, nor in the future.

As things stand, Arsenal look like they are on the way to repeat the same mistakes they make every season. Some players get injured, not enough depth, followed by the usual breakdown, and game over. With the current squad, Arsenal are short in numbers and lack depth; same story, different players.

Arsenal must sign a new defender and a great goalkeeper, otherwise Wenger's persistence will cost Arsenal dearly in the near future.
