Why They Cry and Will Never Stop

Rammer JammerAug 4, 2010

Year in and year out we hear the same crying.  It really never changes.  On and on and on.  Like a small child that did not get their way, just hit the floor, kicking and screaming.  I am referring to the majority of Auburn fans.  Yes, just like small children.  The cries go out for lack of recognition as a major football program.  They go out for being deprived of relevance.  They go out for being left out of contention for a National Championship.  They go out for losing top prospects in the recruiting process.  They go out for, well the list is all too familiar.

The Auburn entitlement mentality will never change.  They are disappointed.  They are so disappointed that they purchased National Championship rings for a game that they did not play.  They are so disappointed that they are unable to attract the majority of the highly ranked recruits in Alabama.  They are so disappointed that they can’t seem to get the time of day from top shelf Division I coaches during their all too regular search process.  But most of all, they are disappointed that they are not The University of Alabama. They loathe the Crimson Tide.  The jealousy blinds them.  Their envy runs much deeper than a healthy rivalry would allow.

I can remember the days when the Alabama and Auburn rivalry was one that both sides could be proud of.  The Iron Bowl was eagerly anticipated from a positive point of view by both sides.  It was a healthy rivalry.  This is no longer the case.  You can hear it, you can see it and you can read it.  The Auburn hatred of the Crimson Tide has become malignant.  The truth has become a disposable commodity to the Auburn fans.  They have adopted a revisionist attitude.  The latest revisionist effort is centered on the hopes of a retroactive championship from 2004 awarded by the FWAA.  Shameful and embarrassing.  Have they lost all sight of what was good about our rivalry?  Yes. Will they ever regain their vision?  Probably not.  It’s impossible to see clearly while crying.

With a deaf ear turned to the habitual Auburn crying, I welcome the 2010 football season.  The Crimson Tide fan table has been set.  We have a team loaded with talent and without limits, a head coach and staff second to none, an impressive expansion to Bryant Denny Stadium waiting to welcome fans and last but not least, the rich tradition that is Alabama Football.

So, like many parents faced with the problem of incessant and unwarranted crying, the best thing to do is simply ‘spank that butt’ and keep moving forward.  Spare the rod and spoil the child. Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, give’em hell Alabama.

Roll Tide!
