College Football Prediction: LSU Rolls Tide in Baton Rouge

Brett StephenAug 3, 2010

The LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide have always been rivals.

Each and every year the game is a large factor in the Southeastern Conference standings, but even more so since Nick Saban, a once glorified Tiger hero, accepted the position of head coach at Alabama.

Tiger fans will not soon forget this act of betrayal and in turn will make every LSU/Alabama game from here on out a personal battle with Saban.

The rivalry has been enhanced by the Saban-factor, but this season the Tigers have yet another reason to get fired up for their game against the Crimson Tide.

In 2009, down by six points with six minutes to play, LSU’s Patrick Peterson clearly intercepted Alabama’s Greg McElroy, but the officials ruled otherwise, even after video review said that Peterson did not have possession in-bounds.

The call was an obvious mistake that should have been overturned after review, but somehow was not.

The bad call influenced not only the outcome of the game, but the outcome of the entire college football championship.

LSU went on to finish the season in a dismal fashion, losing to Penn State in the Capital One Bowl.

Alabama went on to beat Texas in the National Championship game.

The Tigers and Tide meet this season on November 6th in Baton Rouge.

This game should be an all out war as both teams have a bye week prior to the meeting.  Coming into the game fresh and healthy (or as healthy as a team can be 10 weeks into an SEC schedule) the rivals should be ready to get after each other.

Bama brings back most of their championship offense but lost a lot on the defensive side of the ball.

LSU brings back most of their defense (including Patrick Peterson) but has a lot of question marks on the offensive side of the ball.  But with eight games behind them, including big games against North Carolina, West Virginia, and Florida, LSU's young offense should have enough experience to be ready for Alabama.

If the Tiger defense can play up to its potential, the Tiger offense should have enough firepower to beat Bama.

Prediction:

In a close game and heated rivalry, the edge goes to the home team with a chip on its shoulder from a heartbreaking loss in 2009.

Alabama – 17

LSU - 23
