Fantasy Football: F.F.B.'s Draft Day Philosophy/2010 College QB Ranks
The veteran’s of college fantasy football have been aware of a trend that is just now rearing its’ head in the NFL landscape of fantasy football. That would be the importance of quarterbacks and that going against the traditional RB-RB draft scenario can be rewarding.
College Fantasy Football is built on and around the signal callers, especially the dual threat quarterbacks that can air it out as well as run the rock. These players can be found far and wide in college football, but one has to look in the right places, such as Middle Tennesee St. or Nevada, both of which boasted 1,000 yard rushers in Dwight Dasher and Colin Kaepernick.
The gun-slingers also put up a ton of fantasy points and none are better than Houston’s Case Keenum.Keenum was absolutely silly last season and put up a stat line of 492-700 for 5,671 yards and 44 TD’s. He only threw 15 picks last year and has all his weapons back. He should be the first overall in all leagues.
Jerrod Johnson is another one who can sling it and he finished last year with 3,579 yards and 30 TD’s while only throwing eight picks in 497 attempts. He is a gamer and has plenty of weapons to post even better numbers this year.
Kellen Moore is another quarterback that many don’t know, notably because he plays for Boise St. This kid is for real and he has the weapons to post gaudy numbers. He threw for 3,536 yards and 39 TD’s. He had only three interceptions in 431 attempts.
It’s safe to say in most college fantasy football drafts that the first five or six selections should be signal callers. In a recent mock draft I took part in the first round went something like this:
- Case Keenum
- Dwight Dasher
- Colin Kaepernick
- Jerrod Johnson
- Kellen Moore
- Terrelle Pryor
The question mark in the first six is Terrelle Pryor. Pryor showed flashes of being the guy he was when he chose Ohio St. If the Pryor of the Rose Bowl shows up, watch out. Jim Tressel finally understands how to use Pryor, and that is let him use his wheels to set up the pass. Using him out of play action sets and on roll outs, Pryor appears to be more at ease and confident. He never seemed to look comfortable in the pocket and this year could be the year he puts it all together.
One player making the move up the rankings is Robert Marve at Purdue. Many will remember his name from the University of Miami, but he recently beat out Caleb TerBush and Head Coach Danny Hope seems to think Marve is the real deal.
