By 2012, 3 on 3, Miami Vs. New York Perhaps?
You have to be living under a rock not to know that Lebron James and Chris Bosh are joining Dwyane Wade in Miami. And you are also delusional to think that this team won’t be competing for championships for the next six years. With these stars teaming up together in South Beach forming a potential dynasty amongst “The Three Kings”, teams around the league are trying to not only make moves to improve their roster, but to defeat the Miami Heat. One team in particular is the New York Knicks, who thought signing Amar’e Stoudemire was the first step in getting Lebron, which ultimately was out of their reach. However, Team President Donnie Walsh didn’t spend time sulking, making moves around “The Decision” building a team that can potentially rival the Heat.
The consensus is that Lebron, Wade and Bosh planned to play together in South Beach since the Olympics, so there really was nothing the Knicks or any other team could have convinced “The King” otherwise. While plan A wasn’t effectively executed, Walsh put together a team that can compete for a playoff spot this season, while having the flexibility to be players in 2011, and 2012 free agency. Yes, 2011 is the year of Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul becomes a free agent in 2012. There is no way that the Nuggets or Hornets with the assets and cap flexibility they each currently have, can build a team that can beat the Heat.
It would make perfect sense for Melo and CP3 to not only form a triforce with Amar’e in New York City, but to form another huge rivalry with the Miami Heat. The Miami Thrice vs. the NY3 (maybe they come up with a better nickname in 2012) would ultimately face each other in the Eastern Conference Finals. With the L.A. Lakers starting to age in a couple years, the NY3 would be the only hope around the league to take down Dwyane Wade and company.
Could you imagine the playoff duels between these two teams? Wade, Lebron, and Bosh vs. Melo, CP3, and Amar’e. This would be the most talented rivalry since the Bird and Magic days. The Heat may have the better players in their big three, Melo, Paul, and Amar’e would compliment each others game very since they each have their own strengths and position while Lebron and Wade are both ball dominant players that usually set up their offense. It remains to be seen whether this big three is actually going to team up in Madison Square Garden, but it sure would create the greatest rivalry in this century of sports.
