Spain have been crowned world champions after a rather scrappy final match in Johannesburg but what do they care, captain Iker Cassilas lifted the trophy and all glory headed to the Spanish capital.

Over a millions fans came out in support of the Spanish on the streets of Madrid, they also met with King Juan Carlos and Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. Thereafter, the world champs set off on an open-top-bus through the streets of the capital.

At the celebrations, coach Vicente del Bosque and the players had a few words to say in front of the global media and hundreds of thousands of fans.

The most interesting and funny part of the celebrations came when the "MC" for the event, Pepe Reina of Liverpool, presented the 22 players to fans, but the surprise was when Puyol and Pique—the pairing centre backs at Barcelona—ran to put a Barcelona kit over Cesc as a joke.

Reina also introduced Fabregas as: “The Future of Barca and the Future of the Spanish Team.”

This might anger many Arsenal fans as speculation continues after reports suggest Arsenal rejected several bids by Barcelona.

But the Arsenal captain said he dedicates the victory to his team at Arsenal.

"This is for the Arsenal players, the Arsenal fans, the manager Arsene Wenger and all the staff. I am really proud being an Arsenal player. It is for them. They deserve it and they have a world champion at the club," Cesc said.

He continued, "I had a text from Arsene Wenger. He said 'Congratulations, you deserve it.' I replied 'thank you very much' and told him this is for the whole of Arsenal who have helped me get where I am today."

Although Fabregas might have not played as much as he wanted, his contribution and been part of this highly talented Spanish squad makes him a true champion.

Whether he remains at Arsenal or makes the much anticipated move to Catalonia, he will forever be remembered as part of the squad that lifted the World Cup in South Africa.
