What's Portland Going To Do With Rudy Fernandez?

Zeeshan KhanJul 13, 2010

The Portland Trail Blazers recently made their first move in free agency when they signed Utah Jazz restricted free agent Wesley Matthews to a five-year $34 million deal.

This made one thing absolutely clear, Rudy Fernandez will not be playing for the Trail Blazers in the coming season.

I recently wrote an article about all the trades possibly involving Rudy Fernandez. The problem is that a lot of them don't seem like real possibilities to me after the draft and the first two weeks of free agency.

Toronto has already traded for Barbosa to fill their hole at the 2-guard.

Chicago has already added Kyle Korver and JJ Reddick to be their spot-up shooters.

Houston already has more than enough players who can play the 2-guard position (Kevin Martin, Trevor Ariza).

Gilbert Arenas looks like he'll be returning to Washington as their has been no real rush from management to trade him so they won't be needing a back-court partner for Wall.

What I'm thinking is, what does Portland intend to do with Rudy if not trade him? They can't let him just go back to Europe because he still has some value on the market and the Blazers should try their best to trade him for a decent player.

The only realistic option still available is to try and get Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas from New York in exchange for him.

Now that they have Felton they might want to trade Douglas for another player or two since they need to get players on their roster.

What do you guys think? Will the Blazers manage to trade him for something or will they lose him for nothing in return?
