Does Sather have his sight set on Gagne, Demitra, and Richards?
The Flyers have asked Simon Gagne multiple times if he would waive his No-Trade Clause. Gagne has yet to waive it, but he has said that he would waive it for certain teams. Last night Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported that the Rangers may be interested in trading for Gagne. I’m not going to be the one to say “No way” to making a deal for Gagne, but if the price will be to high than I would have to say let him go. It’s believed that the Rangers have been offering Matt Gilroy to multiple teams, and that Brandon Dubinsky may be potential trade bait. Will a trade of Dubinsky, Gilroy, and a draft pick for Gagne happen? Maybe, I for one wouldn’t veto this deal. Gagne has the potential to be a 40 goal scorer, and could be a very good partner for Marian Gaborik. It’s also believed that if the Flyers don’t find a trading partner, that they may be forced to waive him. Same goes for Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins, but that will be a different article. If Gagne is waived I do not think the Rangers should go after him, unless their certain they can clear cap space by next season. Gagne trade rumors are starting to heat up, so frequently check NHL.com if you are interested in seeing where he ends up.
The next player I’m writing about is Pavol Demitra. I’ve being paying so much attention to Frolov, Guerin, and Stempniak (all whom I still believe the Rangers are interested in), but I’ve forgotten about veteran winger Pavol Demitra. Last night it was reported that Pavol Demitra has said that he really wants to be a Ranger. He also said that he would like to play alongside long time friend Marian Gaborik. Demitra has received two ludicrous offers from the KHL, but has said that he would rather become a New York Ranger. To that I say Sather should pursue him if he can’t find a way to sign or trade for anyone else. On March 3rd, 2010 (the trade deadline) I kept my phone close to me hoping and waiting for a text saying that the Rangers have traded for Pavol Demitra. It didn’t happen. Demitra has proven that he could play alongside Gaby, as the two have played together for Slovakia and the Minnesota Wild. Why not bring him to New York? If there is no one else available to acquire, Sather should really think about bringing him to New York. He would be cheap, and could provide offense for a team that has almost none.

The final player I’m writing about, for now, is Dallas Stars Brad Richards. ESPN has reported that the Rangers may be in trade talks to acquire Richards from the Stars. There are three reasons why I believe these rumors are true.
1. The Stars have said that they are trying to free up cap space, and Richards is a guy they might trade.
2. If you recall, Sather tried to acquire Richards last season, but was unsuccessful.
3. The Rangers have been in many rumors concerning a top line center, and Richards may be one of them.
Even if Sather is unsuccessful at acquiring him before the 2010-11 season, I’m sure he will be on top of his wish list heading in to next season’s Free Agency. Another reason a trade for Richards would make sense, is that Richards worked extremely well under John Torterella when both were part of the Tampa Bay Lightning championship team in 2003-04. If the Rangers aren’t talking to the Stars about Richards, then they may be talking to them about another star center, Mike Ribero.
