🚨 Mitchell Headed to 1st Conference Finals

Welcome To Miami Lebron, Now Cleveland, Please Shut Up.

Kyle RoskampJul 9, 2010

Why must we always make comparisons?

Lebron James is not Michael Jordan. Lebron James will never be Michael Jordan. Lebron James will be Lebron James no matter how many championships he wins, no matter how many superstars he plays with.

Why is it a problem, Cleveland, that your hometown kid who has grown up before your eyes wants to spread his wings and move out of the state that he has lived in his entire life? Why is it a problem that he wants to hang out on the beach, meet beautiful people, and play basketball with two of his best friends for the next half decade?

Why is it a problem, Dan Gilbert, that the kid who YOU depended on for the last 7 years is deciding to walk? Why is it a problem that after making you 200 million dollars in seven years, he decides to go build an empire with an owner who is committed to helping HIM do his thing. Why, Dan, did you not have this same sense of "Urgency" and "Motivation" that you claim to have now, when Lebron was still trying to decide whether to stay or not.

Why is it a problem, America, that Lebron is taking less money, just so he can win championships?  Why is it a problem that he needs Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh? Why is it a problem that he is choosing to enjoy himself and win with his friends instead of trying to create a legacy? Why is it a problem that Lebron might not want to be the next Michael Jordan? Why can't he be Lebron James?

In fact, I don't believe Lebron has any problems. I believe that Lebron is the realest personality in the NBA. We all call Lebron "King James," there's posters and commercials and marketing campaigns all around him that call him "King James," and everyone who knows anything about the NBA knows that he is the "King" of the sport. So why is it a problem when he calls himself "The King." Did we freak out when Shaq called himself "Superman." Did we freak out when Dwight Howard donned a cape in the dunk contest.

The answer to that riddle is No.

Is Dwyane Wade one of the 50 best players ever...Scottie Pippen was. Is Chris Bosh better than Horace Grant, maybe. But that is irrelevant. Lebron is swallowing his pride and saying to the world. "I am not Michael Jordan, I can't single handedly win championships." But why is that Lebrons fault.

So Welcome to Miami "King James"

We don't know who's going to take the last shot, we don't know who's going to lead the team in scoring, we don't know who's going to get paid the most. But neither do Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. And quite frankly, they don't give a shit. So buckle up your seat belts Miami. You're going to have 6 years of fun basketball to watch. And while we don't know how many championships they're going to win. We do know one thing.

When the Heat come to town, The Cleveland Cavaliers are screwed.
