Cleveland Owner Dan Gilbert Guarantees a Title for Cavaliers

Jesse DorseyJul 8, 2010

I have stumbled upon something that has made my feelings of desertion be alleviated at least a little bit.

Thursday evening, after the former King of Cleveland announced his desire to see if the grass is indeed greener on the other side, Cavs majority owner Dan Gilbert issued an open letter to the fans.

Let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, this letter got me riled up.  It got me jumping up and down, it got me down right excited.

After adding "The Decision" to the list of things that have given Cleveland fans a sinking feeling in the pit of their collective stomachs and have made them sulk for decades to come, I found this and started a new list.

A list of things that are making me feel better about at least tomorrow as a Cavs fans.

While it is a short list, it is a list nontheless, and it is something to get the Cavalier fans through the next few weeks and next season.

That list now includes three things: the first time LeBron returns to The Q and the prospects of getting tickets to that game to be a part of a world record breaking "BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!", Byron Scott, and The Letter.

In "The Letter", Gilbert is as passionate as an average man in a barbershop in Cleveland with his outrage. He is adamant that loyalty is one of the most important traits a man can have.

Gilbert vehemently denounces the process in which LeBron ripped the hearts out of the Cleveland fan base with his nationally broadcast decision.

Gilbert not only sympathizes with the fans, he is one of them.

He shares their sense of betrayal, and promises that the fans deserve better and will have a brighter future.

He then guarantees that the Cavaliers will win an NBA Championship before the ex-King wins one.

The one thing that had me worried with the departure of LeBron from his soon-to-be former place of residence is that the organization would fall back into the old Cleveland sports state-of-mind and go back to making moves that save money.

Gilbert quickly quelled my fears on that one.  He pronounces dedication to the team, and is downright riveting with his passion.

Whether you think he is a crazy man for his promises, incredibly gutsy, or both, you cannot deny that it was the right thing to do.

He not only shows that his dedication to the team is stronger than ever, he is also being a vocal and passionate owner, something the NBA doesn't have very many of.

The thought of Cleveland winning a championship before the Heat is very questionable at this point.  However, just the thought of the city winning a title after 46 years and after being abandoned by their supposed chosen one and savior makes me giddy with excitement.

Maybe God doesn't hate Cleveland.
