One City Mourns While the Other Celebrates As Lebron James Joins Miami

Jess Matthew BeltranJul 8, 2010

The first domino has fallen and Lebron James has chosen championship rings rather than earning $30 million more in Cleveland as he joins a triumvirate superpower with Dwayne Wade and Chis Bosh in Miami Heat.

It wasn’t a surprise with James leaving the Cavaliers but it hurts pretty much the same. 7 seasons with zero titles, Lebron like a spoiled kid wants that blingx2 on his fingers. He wants to be on the Mount Rushmore of basketball with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant. But those guys never switched teams before it took Jordan7 years before his first title and Lebron wants the easy pass and jump on to the bandwagon with Wade and Bosh. Miami will win more games and maybe championships in years to come but the substance won’t be that bigger with James in Cleveland. It was his team and it was built around him he was a legend but gave up chasing titles in return. It is all about winning but it was also all about Kobe and Michael chasing down Kobe’s 5 and Jordan’s 6 and being the best player in the planet without a title sounds ironic.

The sound of silence is deafening around the streets in Cleveland. The abandoned placards and the empty streets say it all. It was hard to get a sleep with a heavy heart as some tears slowly drip around the heartbroken faces in Ohio. There won’t be any Lebron James in this lifetime and Cleveland just lost its favorite son. They cried when the Cavaliers drafted him and up to the end they still end up crying.

Everyone will be eyeing on one team this coming season and the fantasy matchup with Kobe and Lebron going head to head in the finals might actually happen next June. Lebron got to do what he had to do and Miami is his ticket meal. He knows he will never win championships in Cleveland even though the Cavaliers surrounded him with a championship contender roster. But like every game theirs always a winner and a loser, one city mourns while the other celebrates.
It looks like James will have a long plane ride all the way back to Akron. Cleveland will never be the same with James but like they say the only constant is change.

That’s why moving on is an art.
