Netherlands Reach World Cup Final In 5 Goal Thriller With La Celeste
Woof! That was tight at the end. Uruguay just about nicked a draw as the ref took four and a half minutes to play 3 minutes of injury time at the end.
After Van Bronckhorsts screaming 41 yard goal opened the scoring, it looked like a simple task to hold on to the lead but Forlan had different ideas and scored a magnificent goal himself with a bending shot that outwitted the Dutch keeper. 1-1.
In the second half it was scrappy until Holland scored their second goal with Sneijder turning in the box and fired a shot at goal that took a deflection from a defender before rolling past an outstretched Robin van Persie foot, who looked suspiciously offside, before it hit the back of the net. 2 - 1 Holland.
It only took another 2 minutes before Holland added a third with Robben rising above the Uruguay defence to head home and give his side a 3 - 1 lead with around 16 minutes left.
However, Uruguay kept pushing and got a second goal 1 minute into injury time at the end with a superb Pereira bending shot inside the box giving them only a couple of minutes to try and secure the draw that would take them into extra time. 3 - 2 Holland.
Try as they did, they just couldn't force the ball into the net and when the final whistle went the Dutch were delirious with delight. Rightfully so, its been 32 years since they were last in a World Cup final, losing out to Argentina. This time they will face one of the European Giants, Spain or Germany.
Hollands Wesley Sneijder received the man of the match and now sits jointly top of the scoring charts with David Villa who still has to play tomorrow and with Miroslav Klose only one goal behind on 4 for the championship, its going to be a tight race for the Golden boot.
Today belongs to the Dutch, the futures bright, the futures Oranje!
