Diego Forlan Snubs Tottenham Hotspur Move

Zaakir HoosenJul 5, 2010

With Diego Forlan having an impressive World Cup, the former Manchester United striker has attracted attention once again from some of Europe's elite clubs.

Amongst the interested parties is Tottenham Hotspur. The English club is looking to add to their already highly talented lineup as they prepare to face tough opposition in the Champions League.

Currently Forlan is in South Africa with his Uruguay team as they look for a final spot when they meet the Netherlands in the first semifinal on Tuesday in Cape Town.

Harry Redknapp, on the other hand, is hard at work trying to find the right players to join his squad.

Redknapp had this to say:

"If we can find one or two who we feel will make the difference, we will make signings.

"It is difficult when you have got a good squad, as we have, to find people who are better.

"But we are looking and we may come up with one or two before the season starts."

When asked regarding a possible Forlan swoop, he replied:

"He is a player we would like," Redknapp said. "But I think he might just be out of our range.

"He has had an outstanding World Cup and there wouldn't be too many players at the World Cup who have done better than Forlan.

"He has scored goals, he has worked hard, he is a top player."

When asked regarding a possible move away from Madrid, the Uruguayan international made it clear he was not interested:

"I am very happy in Madrid, and I have three years left on my contract with Atletico," Forlan told the Daily Mirror.

"I will not go. Now I want to have another season as good or better than the one just completed."

Joe Cole is another player linked with a move to Spurs, as the former Chelsea player has been released from his contract by Chelsea. Many clubs are looking to sign the England international, with Spurs amongst Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and AC Milan.

Cole started playing under Redknapp at the age of 11 at West Ham back in 1994 and would like to see him return under his guidance at Spurs.
