NBA Free Agency 2010: LeBron James Undecided on Next Season's Kingdom
Thursday was a day full of anticipation, as everyone waited to see what LeBron James’ first move would be in the opening hours of the 2010 NBA free agency talks.
Those who were waiting to finally hear where the King would land next year were sadly informed that yesterday would not be the day that James would make his decision on where he will be next season.
In fact, James has plans to meet with several teams in the next several days to discuss his options for next season, before he makes his final decision on where he will move, if he chooses to move at all.
According to ESPN.com, James met with the Knicks and the Nets yesterday, and plans to meet with the Bulls, Heat, Clippers, and Cavaliers all before Saturday.
The Knicks and Nets have said they believe talks with the superstar player went well, and that they are hopeful about his decision.
Every team who meets with James has, and will, bring out all the stops to convince James to chose their team as his new home. The Nets even brought Jay-Z to the free agency talks to try and convince James to play for them.
Although James cannot officially sign with any team until July 8, he has announced that he will make his decision by no later than Monday. He doesn’t want to drag out this process for himself or for anyone else.
Even though James is a free agent, and has the ability to sign with a new team, he most likely will not be leaving Cleveland next season, especially now that Byron Scott has been chosen as the new head coach for the Cavaliers.
Since the Cavaliers' front office has shown that they want to appease James, with actions such as hiring a coach James approves of, the best deal he could receive in the free agency talks may be from his very own team.
It may be true that James could receive better endorsement deals, and hence more money, with other teams, but he won’t leave Cleveland next season because he will never win a more epic championship than in any other city.
Now under a new coach, and maybe with a few new players picked up from the free agency talks, the Cavaliers have a good chance of making it far into the playoffs next season, if not all the way to the NBA Finals.
With this kind of potential for next season, it gives James one more on a list of many reasons why he should stay in Cleveland.
While James has not officially made any decision, the clear choice is for him to stay home.
