Kelsey GivensJun 29, 2010

The eight teams in the quarter finals have been decided: the Netherlands, Brazil, Uruguay, Ghana, Argentina, Germany, Paraguay and Spain.

All of these teams have proven they are talented, but which four of these eight teams will make it to the semifinals?

It all depends on who wins their games on Friday and Saturday.

Netherlands vs. Brazil

The Netherlands and Brazil are set to play one another at 10 a.m. EST Friday morning.

Both teams have won three games, but Brazil has also tied one game while the Netherlands lost one game.

However, points wise, the Netherlands have scored more points than Brazil. The Netherlands have scored nine points in comparison to Brazil’s eight.

When these two go head to head though, based on their play so far in the World Cup, it seems that Brazil might have the upper hand.

If Brazil’s top scorer Luis Fabiano can continue to perform as he has so far in the four previous games, Brazil has a good chance of outscoring the Netherlands in their upcoming match.

Uruguay vs. Ghana

These two teams will play their match on Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

So far Ghana has won two games, tied one and lost one, and Uruguay has won three and tied one.

Points wise, Uruguay has scored seven points so far in the World Cup while Ghana has only scored four.

Based on play so far in the World Cup and the standings so far, Uruguay may be the victor of this match.

Although it may seem like Uruguay should have no problem against Ghana, this game won’t be a walk in the park for them. Ghana is still a very good team and could give Uruguay some trouble if they are not prepared.

Uruguay’s top scorer currently is Luis Suarez. If he can continue to deliver performances similar to the ones he has been giving so far in the World Cup, then Uruguay will have a better chance of winning against Ghana.

Argentina vs. Germany

Argentina and Germany are set to play one another on Saturday at 10 a.m. EST.

So far in the World Cup, Argentina has won every one of its games, while Germany has won three of its games and lost one.

Argentina has scored a total of ten points in comparison to Germany who has scored a total of nine points.

Based on these standings and their play in their previous matches, it seems Argentina may come out on top of this match.

Argentina’s top scorer is Gonzalo Higuain. With his help, Argentina should have no problem against Germany.

Paraguay vs. Spain

These two teams are set to play one another on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Paraguay has won one game and tied the other three games including their last game against Japan. Spain has won three games and lost one.

Paraguay has a total of three points in comparison to Spain’s five points overall.

Based on these standings and their play in the World Cup, Spain may be the victor of this match.

With its top scorer David Villa, Spain has a very good chance of outscoring Paraguay in their match on Saturday. As long as they can continue to deliver a performance similar to the ones they have so far, they will most likely come out of this match victorious.

The Semifinals

The semifinals are set to take place on July 6-7.

As long as there are no dramatic upsets and everyone plays similarly to how they have been playing, the four teams going to the semifinals should be Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Spain.
