NBA Free Agency Predictions

1. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will sign with Miami next season, without LeBron James.
As much as I want to see the unprecedented dream scenario of three superstars in their prime voluntarily teaming up to form a powerhouse, I just don’t see LeBron being a team player. Miami is Wade’s town and no matter how many rings that team would win, people would always say “Well LeBron couldn’t have done it without Wade.” I would be thrilled if I am wrong.
2. LeBron will sign with Chicago.
James can be the man in Chicago while still having a shot at being the greatest ever. He would have a surrounding cast that would be good enough to compete for championships, while not being so good that it would weigh down his legacy.
3. The Knicks will get shafted.
A year ago the Knicks were thought to be the front runners for the premiere players from this year’s class. Things have certainly changed. It’s looking more likely they’re not even going to make a serious push for any of the top tier guys anymore. They’ll probably still end up with a quality pair from the likes of Stoudemire, Gay, Boozer, and Lee, but contender? I think not.
4. Whoever the Clippers sign will have a season ending injury next year.
I’m really going out on a limb on this one. Brand. Livingston. Griffin. Anyone who is even pondering the thought of going there should read Bill Simmons’ letter to Blake Griffin last summer telling him to run far away. Griffin played in all of ZERO games last year.
5. Michael Beasley is gone
I don’t care that Pat Riley said he’s not trading him. I don’t care that there have been reports that nobody would even take him. Michael Beasley is not going to play for the Miami Heat next year. It’s clear the Heat want players in “win now” mode, not “I’m a beast one game, I stink the next, I’m good again, just kidding” mode. Riley will throw in one of his houses in the deal to get it done.
Heat Notes (June 29)
- James Jones has been bought out to free up an additional $3M.
- There have been all sorts of conflicting reports about a “mini summit” between Bosh, Wade, and James in Miami over the weekend. Don’t put too much into it.
- The Miami Heat are going to be a heck of a lot better next season no matter what happens.
