USA vs. Ghana 2010 World Cup: USA Fails to Learn Their Lesson in Loss To Ghana

Jo-Ryan SalazarJun 26, 2010

Well, well, well, Bob Bradley. You wanna know something?

I had my doubts about you when you took over for Bruce Arena as our manager. I wasn't so sure if you could lead the USA to success.

I was certainly hoping your boys would have learned their lesson on Saturday against Ghana.

What happened? Where was the drive? Where was the intensity and defense?

Why did you let the Black Stars' Kevin Prince Boateng and Asamoah Gyan make your side look like a bunch of amateurs who look as if they have no business being here?

This has to be rubbish. And Sunil Gulati, for all he is worth, should sack you.

You would have been in it for the long haul had the Yanks gotten their revenge. Instead, it's the same scoreline as four years ago.

A 2-1 loss in Rustenberg.

It's disgraceful, it's despicable, and it should be damned for all eternity with every expletive imaginable.

Adding insult to futility, could you explain why you didn't start Edson Buddle? You just wasted the potential that the Los Angeles Galaxy's leading scorer could bring to the table.

Having Buddle ride the pine for the full 120 minutes is unacceptable. I would think that Buddle would have made a strong impression down at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

You just squandered his potential, Bob. Why would you even bother putting him on the list of 23 if you aren't going to use him, PERIOD?

Actually, I will go on the record to say that the entire complexion of this match could have swung in the USA's favor if you had given Buddle a good amount of playing time at least, instead of just giving it to Robbie Findley or Herculez Gomez.

Boateng and Gyan deserved their goals. Our defense was horrible tonight, with their blown assignments in the fifth and 93rd minutes. Somebody forgot to mark these two players. Raise your hands, U.S. back line. All of them. You are all guilty as charged.

But let's go back to you, Bob. Your teams didn't show up against Brazil last year. They didn't show up against Mexico at Azteca last year. And they certainly stunk it up in the Gold Cup final in '09.

I was not going to be surprised if your players would not inherit the winning mentality to progress. And Brazil and Mexico are ranked higher than the Black Stars. This should be easier for you to handle, right?

Wrong. I just had a feeling you were going to screw this up—and in the end, put your position as USA National Team manager in jeopardy.

And if Sunil Gulati doesn't do the right thing and sack you for this, congratulations: He has become a bigger fool than you have become overnight tonight.

It's the price you pay for not getting the USA to learn their lesson from four years ago. It's deja vu all over again, and that deserves a yo.

Unless Gulati decides to take the dunce cap away from you and put it on his head, nice knowing you, Bob Bradley, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

On second thought...let it.
