FIFA World Cup 2010: Can Chile Cause the Biggest Shock of this World Cup?

Here in the 2010 World Cup, there have already been tons of surprises that we have witnessed on football's biggest stage.

So far, we have seen a staggering demise of the French National Team, to England finishing second in Group C, to the defending World Cup champion Italy finishing last in Group F. 

But the biggest surprise could still be ahead of us.

That surprise could happen tonight, at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria—where Chile will face Spain, knowing that a win or draw tonight will, in all likelihood, eliminate Spain from the World Cup.

So far in this World Cup, Chile have been great, despite only scoring two goals. They have a 2-0-0 record and are in first place in Group H.

Spain, meanwhile, are 1-1-0 and are in second place, but they need a win to ensure advancement.

In their last match, Chile were able to win 1-0 on a goal from Mark Gonzalez, while Spain won 2-0 thanks to a brace from David Villa.

But now, this is Chile's chance to show the world that they are indeed a footballing nation to be reckoned with.

So far in this World Cup, Chile have already broken out of their 48-year spell of not winning a World Cup match as they beat Honduras 1-0 48 years to the date from their last World Cup victory.

And of course, South American nations have been great so far in South Africa, as four of the South American nations have finished first overall in their groups, with Chile of course being the fifth nation.

With players such as Alexis Sanchez and Humberto Suazo on their side, Chile can score goals when they decide to finally finish their chances (something that has not happened so far in South Africa.

Despite the weakness on defense, Chile still have not conceded once, and they know that this is their chance to show that they are among the best footballing nations in the world.

And what better way to show this than knock out the European Champions in Spain out of the World Cup?
