Are Arsenal Actually a Feeder Club?
I'm here to prove that Arsenal are not a feeder club, like it has been suggested. Because Cesc Fabregas wants to return to his boyhood club, I'm going to briefly examine why the biggest transfer's in Arsenal's recent History is not about moving to a bigger club.
The biggest transfer's in arsenal's recent history:
Thierry Henry
Patrick Vieira
Mathieu Flamini
Aliskandr Hleb
Emmanuel Adebayor
Kolo Toure
Ashley Cole
Nowadays, people have been saying that Arsenal are a feeder club, a stepping stone to a bigger club.
However, if you further examine the reason why they left then that's not entirely true.
Theirry Henry: served seven years at Arsenal, became a legend and the club's all-time leading goal scorer, and pretty much achieved everything he could at Arsenal. He wanted to complete his career with a Champions League medal, which he did get.
Same can really be said about Patrick Vieira. When he left Arsenal, we were one of the five biggest clubs in the world.
Mathieu Flamini: We call him "Flamoney" and to a degree that's true, but also he felt let down by the club. They waited until he showed true form and then offered him a contract.
Aliskandr Hleb: Moved, and realised that was the biggest mistake of his life, he has numerous times said. Arsenal were one of the biggest clubs in Europe with one of the best managers and he regrets leaving, so much so he wrote a letter to Arsene Wenger to ask him to come back.
Emmanuel Adebayor: Clearly the biggest example of someone who didn't leave the club for a bigger one—he left because his position at the club became untenable and ran to Man City for all the money.
Kolo Toure: In my opinion, he was an Arsenal legend, he was part of the invincibles and helped win other trophies, but his relationship with William Gallas was so frosty and after his bench time in January 2009, he handed in a transfer request. He also didn't leave for a big club.
Ashley Cole: When he left, he didn't leave for a bigger club, he left for the bumper pay package. He complained Arsenal only offered him a paltry £55,000 a week and he wanted more, apparently he crashed his car.
So where the myth that all the players that leave Arsenal nowadays leave for a bigger club is beyond me. The reason for leaving may be selfish, like for money, but they certainly did not leave for bigger clubs, and even more proof is the less media noticed transfers like, Lassana Diarra, Gilberto, Lauren, etc.
