Oezil is Ideal Replacement Should Fabregas Leave Arsenal

Hasmat MustunJun 23, 2010

The Fabregas transfer saga is one that will not end so fast—much to the disappointment to all Arsenal fans. But until the end of the transfer market season, we all have to ponder whether Cesc will leave and about his potential replacement should he do so.

The media linked a host of names with Arsenal with the name Mesut Oezil popping up a couple times. I did not know much about this young man until the World Cup started. Now I believe he is the perfect replacement.

Oezil plays like an Arsenal player. He is technically a cut above the rest and is an attacking-minded player. He works hard for the team. Yesterday against Ghana, the German international played on the right, left, and centre. He popped up everywhere and was involve in most of the attack. He is a creative player who has an eye for the perfect pass.

He can score great goals, too, just like when he fizzed a wonderful half-volley into the corner of the net to win the game for Germany last night.

Oezil is certainly using this tournament to showcase his talents—the same talents that will certainly help him become a world-class player. He would be a top midfielder for most teams.

Another player known to everyone is Rafael Van der Vaart. The Dutch international is already a top-class midfielder, but his rapport with Robin Van Persie can be mesmerising at times.

Should Arsene Wenger try to snap one of these two players, I'm sure we will not feel light in midfield without Fabregas. But like all Arsenal fans, I stand firm and would love to see our captain stay at the Emirates.
