2010 FIFA World Cup: The Best Goalkeepers from the First Round

Darko MihajlovskiJun 23, 2010

This 2010 FIFA World Cup has proved to be a problem for all of the goalkeepers who are representing their national teams.

The biggest reason for that is the Jabulani ball made by Adidas. The name of the soccer ball means bringing joy to everyone . Now this couldn't get any better.

It brings trouble for the keepers but happiness to everybody else, especially the guys who score.

Jabulani is created by a new design, consisting of eight thermally bonded, three-dimensional panels. The surface of the ball is textured with grooves, which presents another new technology by Adidas.

So far, the ball has proved to be a nightmare for the last men in the defense. The way it bounces isn't right, according to most of the keepers, and it causes many injuries for other players.

With these current problems for most of the keepers, only the world class and top goalkeepers can consistently defend well and prove themselves.

In the first round of the World Cup in soccer, only two goalkeepers stand out above their colleagues and they are Tim Howard and Vincent Enyeama.

Tim Howard is one of the best goalkeepers in the entire competition. He's a presence on the field and changes the game in a couple of ways.

He stands tall, has amazing reflexes, fantastic positioning, the ability to defend in 1-on-1 situations, to rush out to the strikers, close angles, and force bad shots. Now that's a keeper.

Vincent Enyeama is starting to make a name for himself for the Nigerian national team. The goalkeeper proved to be crucial in their 1-0 defeat to Argentina.

He has excellent position, great reflexes, very good in 1-on-1 situations and has the best athleticism out of all of the goalkeepers. He's not easy to score against because he can get to and stop many shots.

These guys have proved to be great and crucial for their national teams. They are the best men standing in the defense and will continue to make a big impact for their teams.
