Dunn REALLY Likes Washington

Paul RaymondJun 22, 2010

Not too long ago I wrote about Adam Dunn and how much he likes playing for the Washington Nationals. So much that he’d like to be there long term, well according to a new report from Bill Ladson at MLB.com, he REALLY likes being in Washington and is upset with all of the trade talk.

"

“I hear this every single year. This is part of baseball and signing two-year deals that I hate,” Dunn said. “There is always a possibility of getting traded, but that is out of my control. I think we have a very good nucleus of guys here. I don’t think we need to break up that corps.”

Dunn’s right, the constant trade talk when signing short term contracts is unfortunate but that’s what happens when you do so. He was a player who needed to sign that short term deal in hopes of proving himself worthy of the lucrative contract he wants.

Luckily for him, even with all of the trade talk the Nationals would also like to keep him, at the right price.

"

“We’re looking into it,” Rizzo said about Dunn’s contract status. “We’ve been talking about him since Spring Training. “Like I said we are looking at every way to improve the club. We like where Adam’s at offensively and defensively. He’s a big part of the clubhouse and a big part of the middle of the lineup.”

"

I’d have to say after reading Ladson’s post, I’m pretty excited about the Nationals. They have tons of young talent and yes they are a little bit away from contention, but there is excitement. I mean really, when was the last time you heard of a player wanting to stay with the team and the team also wanting to keep him.

I can’t even remember the old Montreal Expos wanting to KEEP players when its contract time. Dunn has been pretty solid in his time with the Nats. He’s hit 54 homers with 145s over 797 Washington at-bats. His average is a bit low at .269 but his on base percentage is a nice .385. So its great to see the Nationals wanting keep the players who produce for them.

Hopefully he stays with Nats and gets a chance to grow with the younger players.
