WWE Stock Watch: Evan Bourne, NXT and Jack Swagger's Stock Up?
Big Nasty Securities is back to assess the values of various WWE talent (stock) coming off of a rather lackluster Fatal 4 Way pay-per-view.
You know the drill, and for those of you who don't it's rather self-explanatory and you'll get it as you go along if I do my job correctly.
STOCK UP
NXT Rookies
This one is a no-brainer.
The NXT Sevens' encore performance this past Sunday on Fatal 4 Way looked more like a re-run, however The WWE NXT rookies' assault on Vince McMahon showed us that the WWE is in fact fully behind this angle as the big summer angle with star making potential.
Smart investors should have loaded up on the stock the minute John Cena stopped dead in his tracks only to find Wade Barret on the ramp, with the other rookies soon to follow.
Evan Bourne
With so many injuries to top stars, the elevation of young talent has become as obvious as it is necessary.
Evan Bourne is in the midst of the biggest push since arriving in WWE, as he holds a pinfall victory over both former World Champion Chris Jericho and current WWE Champion Sheamus.
While the WWE still seems to be teaching Chris Jericho a lesson about taking his mouth off of their teat and branching out into side projects, the main benefactor of this, "tough love," has undoubtedly been Evan Bourne.
Should Bourne's ongoing feud with Jericho blossom into a high profile Summerslam showdown, a win on such a big stage would accomplish the rather brainless mission of making Evan Bourne a star.
Long story short: Buy, buy, BUY!
The Miz
The last time around, we noticed a noticeable decline in the Miz' stock, however advised investors to continue to invest as the lower value would translate to bigger profits when this stock inevitable rebounds.
Like Kobe during a bad shooting night, The Miz has rebounded strongly, inserting himself into the WWE title picture fresh off of a mini feud with R-Truth that saw him recapture his United States Championship.
Abysmal rapping aside, The WWE seems to finally be ready to pull the trigger on the Miz.
Kane
Like it or not, Kane has been pushed to the moon as a result of The Undertaker's recent vegetative state.
Just look no further than the fact that The Big Red Machine was the main focus on a pay-per-view World Championship match he wasn't even competing in.
After habitually being slated as a midcard threat and nothing else, Kane is as close to the main event as he's been in years. Kane wasn't even on our radar last time.
Anybody with the foresight (or luck) to buy stock in this monster may want to consider calling him the Big Green Machine. Because he's making you money.
Alicia Fox
Operation Affirmative Action continued in the WWE with Alicia Fox registering a surprise victory at WWE Fatal 4 Way.
Fox has had a rather busy month as she was also featured in the main angle of an episode of RAW hosted by Ashton Kutcher.
Fox has had an active role in the WWE Diva's title picture, yet seemed to be placed in this role because people got tired of watching Jillian Hall do the job.
Alicia Fox is now an unlikely Diva's champion as well as a great value earner for her investors.
Apple Computer
The new RAW Guest Host, for the time being, is a Mac Computer. This brilliant display of synergy means that we will not only see a Mac computer multiple times during the WWE's highly rated flagship show, but we will also hear that trademark Mac alert whenever the Guest Host has a neato idea.
It's also worth mentioning that this week's RAW was the highest rated RAW since Shawn Michael retired the night after Wrestlemania.
That's even more people who got to witness the self-righteous ingenuity that is the Mac Computer.
STOCK DOWN
Ted DiBiase
If it's any consolation, this was going to be a lot more damning until recent developments saw DiBiase paired with heat (and creepy guy) magnet Maryse.
I've gone on record in saying that the "Million Dollar Boy" gimmick is amongst the worst in pro wrestling.
The addition of Virgil gave the gimmick potential, but the two became a bad comedy act and that was hardly the essence of the original gimmick as any comedy was purely coincidental and/or ancillary (There's a reason Virgil remained expressionless).
DiBiase's stock may be down, but his recent pairing with Maryse should make his investors optimistic while pissing off The Miz.
Jack Swagger
The build up to, and eventual commencement of, The WWE's Fatal 4 Way pay-per-view saw Jack Swagger's stock fall faster than France's national soccer team.
Swagger stock took some shots on TV, as he cleanly jobbed on Smackdown during high profile matches with his Fatal 4 Way opponents.
But this was no reason to be alarmed as we've seen this pattern of Swagger jobbing on television en route to pulling off an improbable victory.
However Swagger's feet were officially swept from under him with a shocking loss to Rey Mysterio, who scored his second World title reign.
Are you getting all these subtle soccer references in the spirit of the World Cup? Basically, that stock is getting its ass kicked.
R-Truth
Affirmative Action giveth, Affirmative Action taketh away.
One month after being christened the little gimmick that could by Big Nasty Securities, R-Truth's sudden push has cooled off to some degree.
The back end of June saw Truth drop the United States Championship after a short reign of just a few weeks, followed by an uninspired performance (that drew chants of "This is boring" from a notoriously harsh New York crowd) in his ensuing rematch with The Miz at Fatal 4 Way.
It was fun while it lasted, but all signs indicate an upward climb from this point on.
Shad Gaspar
There's an old saying that goes, "Out of sight, out of mind."
In Big Nasty Securities, we live by the saying, "Out of sight, stock declines."
Since being split from JTG and pegged by many pundits as the obvious beneficiary of the Cryme Tyme push, Shad Gaspar has done next to nothing outside of a fly-by-night feud with JTG that ended in an unnecessary strap match.
Where is this guy? Does the WWE have plans for him? Is he still employed by the WWE? Until these questions are answered, we strongly advise that you do not touch this stock.
