Conspiracy Theory in Full Swing

Sam RobertsJun 21, 2010

Bookies have already slashed odds on the draw between South American
rivals Mexico and Uruguay at the World Cup next week.

The Group A opponents face off in Rustenburg next Tuesday and they know a draw will see hosts South Africa and France bundled out of the tournament. But forget making a few quid on the stalemate, which is sure to happen as the two sides conspire to see off France, as the world cup 2010 prices have it already as short as 8/11.

France can still qualify despite their 2-0 defeat to Mexico on Thursday night. Raymond Domenech, who is already leaving Les Bleus after the tournament, must beat South Africa heavily and hope Mexico see off Uruguay and they pray their goal difference is good enough.

But those looking to bet world cup 2010 money on this match should note that is an unlikely scenario as both Mexico and Uruguay will be happy to earn a point and both march through to the knock-out phase.

It threatens to be an “after you, no after you” scenario and it certainly could be a match to miss.

France will face South Africa in Bloemfontein at the same time and bet world cup 2010 pundits suggest they are 4/6 shots to grab their first World Cup win. Just how they will approach the game is a mystery. They have been woeful in their first two matches and look disjointed and in need of some direction.

None of their star players have hit any form and boss Domenech’s body language does not suggest they will finish their group campaign with a bang. They look destined for an early exit and there won’t be too many tears shed throughout Europe, especially in Ireland. They did after all get to the finals by default after Thiery Henry’s handball goal in Paris in the play-off with the Republic.
