Manny Pacquiao Has it Way Harder Than Kobe Bryant
Last night I attended a concert called Summer Jam at the Honda Center where the Anaheim Mighty Ducks play. It was a very commercial hip hop concert with the likes of Snoop Dog, Neyo, and a surprise performance by P. Diddy.
When new rapper messiah Drake took the stage, he was about to sing his hit song: “Over”. He stated that the Boston Celtics were over because of one man and that man was Kobe Bryant. Rather then say Kobe’s name he brought Kobe out on stage with him and everyone in the sold out Honda Center went bananas.
However lets keep it real, going back to Game 7 of the NBA finals Kobe did not exactly have a great performance. In fact, it was rather embarrassing. Having residing in the Southern California area for the last several years I am more than happy for the world champion Los Angeles Lakers defeating the Celtics, but in all honesty it was not a Kobe winning championship.
Yes Kobe won the MVP for the Finals but again his performance in that final Game 7 was just plain horrible. It was just like a case of the body snatchers and someone switched his body with that of one who could not shoot or even score.
Yes towards the end of the game he started to regain his ability to shoot free-throws which obviously contributed to the win and he did obtain a significant amount of rebounds, but it was quite pathetic how the announcers had to scream in fake excitement for each rebound as if they could not get excited for all the usual magic that Kobe usually provides during the Finals.
Speaking of Magic, Magic Johnson is the greatest Laker of all time sorry youngsters. Also Michael Jordan is still the greatest NBA player of all time rather then list dozens of reasons why MJ is greater than Kobe I will just say we will never see another MJ in the NBA as much as we hope for.
So this again is a reason why the sport of boxing is so much more harder than any other sport for if you have an off day it can mean a loss on your record, you getting knock the F out, or even in the most extreme cases a career ending beating/injury or even death.
For example take the fighter of the decade Manny Pacquiao a champion who does not have a perfect record, who has losses and has had off days much like Kobe did in Game 7.
Pacquiao holds an impressive record of 51(38)-3. Three losses on his career two by knock out.
Whether his off day was due to weight draining, over training/under training, or not being able to wear his signature Reyes punchers gloves or whatever the case may be, Manny can not simply rely on his team to pick up the slack and pull their own weight. Manny can not tag Alex Ariza to come in and fight for him and go for the knock out.
He can’t pass the ball to set up an assist for Buboy to make a slam dunk. He can’t have Freddie Roach shoot a three-pointer to tie the fight for him much like Kobe had Gasol, Fisher, Artest and company all step up in his lack there of ability to do much in that final Game 7.
A poor performance in a boxing match usually results in a loss for that fighter. One fighter wins or loses the fight for himself in most cases if the shady judges, shady referee, etc. are not that corrupt of course.
If a fighter is feeling fatigue, ill, or ate a bad lunch he can not simply sit on the bench and try to regain his composure as his team mate steps into the ring for him.
A true fighter, a true champion gives it his all from bell to bell. For the full three minutes each round for all 12 rounds.
There is no commercial breaks, no half time show, no time outs. A true champion has to just suck it up and fight on to win or keep that title belt.
Manny Pacquiao has to either win as many rounds as he can or ultimately stop his opponent in order to be a champion. Kobe Bryant can have the worst performance of his life, missing more shots than he has ever in his whole entire career, have his team step up to win the game for him and he still becomes a champion and is praised and adored and is considered to be one of the greatest Laker champions of all time.
Manny Pacquiao has it way harder than Kobe Bryant.
