2010 World Cup: FIFA Must Scrap Kaka's Red Card

Hasmat MustunJun 20, 2010

Every World Cup game is full of passion and no player want to lose, but the incident at the end of the Brazil-Ivory Coast game was disgraceful.

The referee did not have the best of games in the first place. Fabiano is a great player but two handballs in the buildup to his second goal should have been seen by the referee or his linesmen.

Then we witnessed one of the funniest things—the referee asked the player if he handled it. What player playing in the World Cup will admit to handling the ball?

Ivory Coast became frustrated as Brazil turned on their samba style football in which Kaka showed his quality. Tackles flew in and became more and more aggressive, much to Dunga's frustration.

But then occurred the incident which brought the most ridiculous decision of the 2010 World Cup.

With minutes left on the clock an incident occurred off the ball. Kaka stood still when a player ran towards him, the Brazilian pushed his arm out towards the chest of the opposing player.

The player went down holding his face and kept rolling around for minutes. All the Ivorians lost their discipline and ran after Kaka, eventually the referee gave him a second yellow card and sent him off. It was a disgrace!

Replays clearly shows that no contact was made in the face and any contact was not aggressive in anyways. Replays also showed that the referee did not see the incident as he was following the ball. The linesmen never raised his flag and communication seemed minimal. One can only assume that the reaction of the Ivorian players prompted the referee's decision.

FIFA must act upon this and overrule the decision. Football must be presented in the right way. This was the worse performance by a referee so far in the tournament. If FIFA doesn't act on this ridiculous decision then they should all be ashamed of themselves.

What do you think of Kaka's dismissal and should FIFA act upon it?
