Brazil Beats Underrated North Korea After Tied 1st Half

Jason KimJun 15, 2010

For Brazil's first match in Group G, they were scheduled to face FIFA ranked 105th team People's Republic of Korea (North Korea).

Because of the fact that they have not been in the World Cup to 44 years, everyone underrated the country. Even news sources and other soccer fans predicted that this was maybe the "most lopsided game in a while."

Even though they might have lost 2-1 to #1 Brazil, it was quite a feat for North Korea to hold Brazil to no goals for the entire first half.

Brazil's win was obvious, because their expectations were so high for this match.

A win is a win, so we've got to give it to Brazil.

North Korea had already accomplished something by making the World Cup in the first place. To add to that, Brazil couldn't get past their strong defense for some time in the game.

Brazil kept taking shots from a long range, and when they finally did get past the defense by the side, they scored a goal which turned out to be the one that lifted Brazil's spirits up.

Here was my expectations of Brazil:

  1. Offense: A+
  2. Defense: A

And it ended up like this:

  1. Offense: A-
  2. Defense: C

Brazil scored two goals, but they did not get at least one of them in the 1st half. It showed that they might have been over confident about North Korea's abilities. My grading system is based on that you have got to try your hardest every time.

The Defense was awful, as they allowed a goal to North Korea even with maybe the greatest goalkeeper in the world.

Here was my expectations of North Korea:

  1. Offense: C
  2. Defense: C+

And it ended up like this:

  1. Offense: B
  2. Defense: B

North Korea scored a goal against #1 Brazil. Not only that, it was against a really good goalkeeper.

The defense was perfect in the 1st half, and they finished sloppy. But it was still a solid performence throughout the entire game.

Everyone thought North Korea could hold the game to a tie, but Brazil pulls out an easy one 2-0.
