FIFA World Cup 2010: How Team USA Will Fare in the Next Two Games

Kelsey GivensJun 15, 2010

Team USA tied England in their first game of the World Cup. So how will they fare in their next two games of round one? The U.S is set to play Slovenia in their next game on June 18. According to the FIFA ranks, the U.S is ranked No. 14, while Slovenia is ranked No. 25.

Slovenia has already won one game so far against Algeria, and will be looking for another win on Friday. Even though they have one win over the U.S, I think that based on how each team played in their first game and based on their current rankings, team USA will be able to pull out a win against Slovenia.

Slovenia was able to beat a team ranked lower than they, which was to be expected, while the U.S was able to hold their own and tie a team that was ranked well above them. This level of skill shown by both teams would seem to predict that the U.S will be able to win in this matchup.

As long as the U.S can step up their offense and play with the same level of defense as they did against England, they should be victorious against Slovenia.

After Slovenia, the U.S will play Algeria on June 23. Algeria is ranked No. 30 in the FIFA standings and has already been defeated by Slovenia. In my opinion, the U.S should have no problem beating this team in game three of the World Cup.

While Algeria may have only lost by one point to Slovenia, this shows that if the U.S can win against Slovenia on Friday, they should have no problem beating a team ranked well below them that has already begun to struggle and has already been defeated.

If the U.S can play at a consistent or better level than they did in game one against England, then they should see victories in their next two games of group C in the World Cup.
