The Pac 12 Will Be The Best Conference In All Of College Sports.
The Pac 10 will be better off at 12 teams than 16 in the long run. Many folks right away will say I am crazy and say that the Pac 10 is weak and a joke. My question for them is weak at what? A joke at what? Football? Really?
Well here is my first piece of advice for all you wannabe football experts. before you start spouting junk off-make sure you got facts to back them up champ!
Here are just enough facts to squash any argument against Pac 10 football power:
1.) In a down decade for the conference of champions, the Pac 10 still owns the best out of conference record in all of college football. And before you say but-this fact remains true even if you remove USC. This fact also still remains true if you take out all 1-AA and non-BCS opponents. The Pac 10 is still tops. Also keep in mind the Pac 10 easily plays the toughest out of conference schedule in virtually every study that has been done on the issue.
2.) The Pac 10 is top 3 in bowl record in the last decade. Even with last years lackluster showing counted into the records.
3.) The Pac 10 has the Best record ( 11-9) against the SEC in the last decade. This is true even if you remove USC.
Perception and fan dedication seem to play more of a role in people's view of the Pac 10, rather than fact.
Even if you will not admit the Pac 10 is number one in football, there is no way they are lower than third by any measure there is. Sorry, folks but facts and records tell alot more about how good a conference is, not how early the fans show up to tailgate.
With that being said the Pac 10 only improves by adding Colorado and Utah.
Yeah Colorado is down-way way way down, but they have a history and tradition and a modern national title in the history. They are equal to Washington when both programs are in top form.
Utah has the best bowl record the last decade in all of football. They are 2-0 in BCS games, and are the last team to beat Alabama in a bcs game (2009).
Adding these 2 programs, definitely makes the Pac 10 the most powerful football conference in the long term.
The Pac is already unquestionably the best Athletic conference in Overall College sports BY FAR. And it's not even close.
The SEC? Besides football and some recent success in college baseball, they have Kentucky men's basketball and Tennessee women's basketball.
ACC? Tops in basketball in modern times but not all time.
Big East? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! They are usually second or third in basketball and last in most every other sport.
Big 12? Ok. But not close to the Pac 10 overall.
Big 10. Second best overall conference, but still not close.
Quick, name the top 3 schools for total national titles in all of college sports?!
WRONG!!!!!!
The correct answer we were looking for is:
1.) UCLA
2.) Stanford
3.) USC
You read that right-the top 3 athletic programs in all of the NCAA all reside in 1 conference.
lets take it a little further for more proof:
Q:Top 2 programs in Men's college Baseball history?
A: USC and Arizona State
Q: Men's baseball program with most National titles in last decade?
A: Oregon State
Q: Top program in college Softball?
A: UCLA
Q: Top program in men's Basketball?
A: UCLA
Q: 3rd all time in Women's basketball?
A. Stanford
Q: Top 5 Running programs?
A: Oregon with 16 running national titles all together, and USC.
UCLA is also in the mix.
Q: Top rowing Program?
A: Washington.
BLAH
BLAH
BLAH
You get my point. The Pac 10 is the conference of champions already. By adding Colorado and Utah they become a bigger force in Football. Gymnastics (UTAH), Men's basketball (Utah) and even skiing!!!!!! With both Colorado and Utah owning scores of national titles in the sport. Plus Colorado adds to the Pac 10 running tradition.
So whats in store for the Pac 12? More national titles in more sports. Most importantly, a better TV deal!! Which the Pac deserved anyway as the most prestigious conference in all of college sports. Not to mention the largest population base and the most top 30 tv Markets, and that's even before adding Denver and Salt Lake.
