Conference Realignment : Names
Before Conference Realignment:
In 2009, the Big 12 had twelve teams, thus Big "12". The PAC-10 had ten teams, thus Pac-"10". The Big Ten didn't have 10 teams, but in the Big Ten logo there is a hidden eleven (in case you still don't see it, there are 1s on each side of the T). In the past, conferences like Big 12, or Big Ten were known by how many teams they had Big-Six or Big-Eight, etc.
Also in 2009, The Pac-10 or Pacific Ten is located alongside the Pacific Coast, thus "PAC"-10. The WAC or Western Athletic Conference is mostly (except Louisiana Tech) on the west side of the US. The SEC or Southeastern Conference is in southeastern US. The Mountain West Conference is Rocky Mountain region. ACC is Atlantic Coast. BIG East.
So we can tell a lot about a conference from it's name like, where it is located or how many teams are in it.
After Conference Realignment:
Now there's a possibility that the original Pacific 10 Conference will have 5 more teams to the eleven it already has(yes, including Colorado), making 16 teams. I'm not all for it but hey, it's all about money. I want to keep the Big 12 alive, well the Big 12 South and Nebraska. This isn't about discussing the Goods and Bads.
Back to focus a 16-team PAC-10, or a 13-team SEC based on what A&M does, and a 12 team Big Ten. Aside from the SEC there's a problem with the numbers. What do you name these new conferences? The Big Ten probably won't change their name, they didn't when they got their eleventh member, Penn State back in 1990.
So that leaves us the Pac-10 or Pac-16 or Pac-Infinity for that matter. What do you name this proposed Mega-Conference. I don't like PAC-16 because it stupid and Texas, Colorado, OU, OSU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech aren't near the Pacific Ocean. So let's start off with some suggestions:
- LSC (Larry Scott Conference)
- West-16
- Big West
- TTC (The Texas Conference)
- Big-16
- Big Conference
- etc...
Readers it's up to you know. Give suggestions of names for the new PAC-10 conference. The future of college football depends on it. Don't forget to vote.
