Is Raymond Domenech Really Bothered About the World Cup?

Hasmat MustunJun 12, 2010

The French! What can you say about France? One of the greatest international teams to have played the game, with some fantastic players over their history embracing the shirt. But this team has always come under criticisms, and lately it has been revolving around the manager, Raymond Domenech.

Domenech always grabs the headlines with his infamous spats with players and shock squad admissions, Karim Benzema being the latest casualty. However, yesterday's 0-0 draw with Uruguay undermined more problems for the manager that could have been avoided.

He brought on his substitutions 20 minutes from time, never changed the system, and gave Govou the famous No. 10 shirt—he hardly touched the ball in the second half.

His substitutions were good and showed his attacking intentions but lacked common sense; Florent Malouda and Gignac came on and played in the wrong positions.

His comments after the game are incredible. He claimed it is one of the best 0-0 draws he's watched!

There are serious problems in the French camp, especially when payers are arguing with the manager a day before they kick off (which led Malouda to lose his starting place).

Uruguay defended strongly, but their goalkeeper was hardly tested. It was like watching Arsenal a year or two ago, when the transition period began.

Are the French going through a transition period? Or does the manager even care if they win the World Cup?

Domenech came out and announced he is quitting France after the World Cup. Why did he reveal this before the tournament? The players may not show him any respect or even listen to him.

A manager who lets his ego gets the better of him is by no means professional. Domenech should have played the best team on the day and in the right positions. Compare the following formation and players to the one that played yesterday. Not being overly arrogant, I believe it would have caused much more problems! Right now I worry that France may not qualify at all!

France's Best XI:

                                                   Loris

            Sagna                   Gallas                 Abidal                    Evra

                                     Toulalan                Diaby

                                                   Gourcouff

                    Malouda                                                  Ribery
