England Vs USA Live: World Cup 2010, Group C

England are resounding favourites for this match, and that is rather unsurprising—after all on paper they are a much better team. There have been a few minor injuries which will undoubtedly have caused a headache for Capello, although he says he has decided on a starting 11 and is happy with the choices he made after juggling the midfield to replace the injured Barry.

Joe Cole is expected to start on the left after the reshuffle. The rumor mill has it that the manager is going to favour Rob Green in goal, and King and Terry should certainly start in defence. Rooney is of course the man whom the USA will need to be aware of as the striker is certainly capable of causing them more than a few problems.

The USA have been leaking goals recently and have gone 10 games without keeping a clean sheet. This of course is not great news when they have the likes of Rooney to contend with up front. Their form has been poor at best, and other than their victory over Australia they have pretty much lost all of their warm up friendlies prior to the World Cup.

In qualifying England played some fantastic football being the top scorers, which is always good to watch. The question is will they play like they did then or like they have done in the last few weeks, because the difference in performance is so vast it could have been two different teams playing.

England do have the best chance of winning this. If they don’t it would be considered an absolute embarrassment for the country which started competitive football. The English side is one of the outside favourites for the World Cup, and it has been a long time since an England side has really had a good chance of going all the way. A slip up here could quite possibly see all hopes of a second World Cup title for England swiftly ruled out.
