Good morning (or afternoon to everyone on the East coast). Todd Lamansky here, Bleacher Report Soccer Writer Extraordinaire. Over the next couple of hours I’ll be your guide through the second match of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa between France and Uruguay. So if you can’t get to a TV why not follow all the drama and excitement here? You can also join the conversation by posting your comments below.
--------------------------------------------------------------- 1:37 PST - Alright, time to sign off, folks. I must say his whole-live blogging thing was quite an interesting experience. Looking forward to USA vs. England tomorrow. Peace and love. L8R. 1:34 PST - Glad to hear the first goal of the Cup was scored by a player from South Africa. 1:30 PST - I think tomorow is going to be much more exciting. Maradona might not be the best coach in the world, but at least he's got some personality. Messi and company should give us a much more exciting game. Even if Nigeria blow it, which is highly possible considering their coach only came aboard in March, at least we'll se some goals. I'll be waiting for the moment Tevez comes on as a sub. That guy rules. He was another source of good points for me in fantasy. I first noticed him when he saved West Ham from relegation, but really took notice when he was at Man U. I like SAF but have no idea why he let Tevez go. He should have put Berba on the bench instead. 1:24 PST - With the Mexico/South Africa 1-1 draw, all four teams in group A are level with one point apiece after the first round. I tipped France to win the group in my WC pool so I'll continue to pull for them. Glad about the other draw as well because I picked South Africa to finish second. I was playing the odds. No host country has ever failed to make it out of their group and the draw with Mexico only proves the effect of a home field advatage in the World Cup. 1:22 PST - Malouda to Diaby, who goes down. Free kick. That was a little soft. This will be one of the last plays of the game. Another caution, this time for URU skiper. Henry (or Ribery) to take the kick... Stopped by the wall! But that guy got some serious air (see photo). Another great defensive display. Final score: nil-nil draw. What a disappointing match. France's should have started Henry and Anelka up top and Malouda on the pitch as well. 1:19 PST - Three minutes of added time...Can France make it happen? 1:16 PST - More good defending by URU. Henry calls for a handball. Ironic. It was ball to hand anyhow. Final minute of the match and France STILL has not done anything despite having a one mn advatage for the past 10 minutes! 1:14 PST - Good defending by URU. They just broke up two plays. you wouldn't even know they were down a man they did it so well. URU sub coming on... 1:11 PST - Looks like France is preparing for their ast substitution. France has so much quality. Today's poor display can only be attributed to bad coaching. 1:09 PST - Red card for Lodeiro!!! Sagna's lucky he didn't break his ankle. This is the advatage France needed. 11v10 now. 1:07 PST - Malouda from range. That was a lot wider than it looked at first. I think this one's gonna end in a draw. 1:05 PST - Malouda takes the free kick...than you vey much says the keeper. 1:02 PST - Malouda, finally! But i wish anelka was still on the field. Molouda had a brilliant season with Chelsea, especially at the end. So weird it was the 75' before we saw him when he's in such top form right now. Henry goes down. 1:01 PST - "I think the least said about that effort, the better." That's the voice from my Xbox! 12:58 PST - Glad to see Henry, but I would have rather seen him come on to partner with Anelka, but Ray has switched them instead. No wonder this guys's getting the sack after the wc. Henry is now the first Frenchman to ever play in 4 world cups. Forlan misses! He should have hit the target from there. 12:56 PST - Toulalan (FRA) mos def desrved that foul. Ooh fight! Not a good idea in the WC though. Looking at the replay, that tackle was way late. Looks like Henry may be coming on, although I'm not sure how effective he woud be. 12:52 PST - That guy for URU made a mountain out of a mole hill and Evra knows it too. I think one of the reasons why this game is proving to be so non-eventful is because neither team is playing to win; they're playing not to lose. I know that you don't want to lose your first game in the WC because then you're chasing everybody else, but i still think it's focusing your energy on the wrong thing. the Universe ony hears "lose." 12:50 PST - URU awarded a free kick but Sagna totaly won the ball. oh well. Lodeiro coming on first for URU. When is France going to bring on Malouda?!? Nice save by France's GK. 12:48 PST - Tourino (URU) picks up a caution for a foul on Ribery. 12:46 PST - He took that shot from way too far out. I can't beieve France hasn't been able to make something happen with all the possession they've had. 12:43 PST - Nice build-up from my man Evra, who just drew a throw-in as well. It's time to bring in Malouda. OMG! The commentator just said the same thing. Great minds think alike. ;-) 12:41 PST - Uruguay shuts down another French attack. 12:38 PST - I agree with the commentator. Why is Forlan keep taking all the free kicks? He should be next to the goal. 12:35 PST - Uruguay is defending well. France will need to make a tactical substitution if they don't make something happen soon.

12:29 pm PST - Pretty close match, but i think France is going to shift gears in the second half. I also think they're are going to win the group. Yes, they've struggled to gel as a team, but they just have too much quality for the other teams to handle. Think about it: they have Thierry Henry AND Florent Malouda on their bench! Imagine if the United States had Henry as one of their starting strikers.
12:22 pm PST - Halftime highlights. Nice save by Uruguay's goalie.
12:20 pm PST - Another reason I like France: Florent Malouda scored me a ton of points this year in fantasy. Anelka has done me well over the past few years too, going all the way back to his time at Bolton, where remained the team's top scorer for a time even after he went to Chelsea.
12:16 pm PST - Tied 0-0 at half.
11:55 am PST - And because Henry is still on my Arsenal squad along with Adebayor in FIFA 07 for the original Xbox.
11:52 am PST - This may sound funny given my Irish heritage, but I am rooting for France. Why? I am a big fan of their captain, Patrice Evra. Go Red Devils!
11:30 am PST - And the match is underway!
11:29 am PST - Uruguay is going with a 4-4-2. France will use a 4-5-1. Both Theirry Henry and Florent Malouda are on the bench. Here we go!!!
11:26 am PST - The national athems are over. I am chomping at the bit!
11:06 am PST - A little bit about me. I grew up playing soccer but switched to Americn football in high school because, much like Texas, that's what boys in the Missouri do. That said, several of us ditched football for soccer when it looked as though we weren't going to have a starting position on the throwball team. And it was a blast.
I watched the final between Germany and Brazil in the 2002 WC, and a bunch of matches in 2006, but other than that I never really watched football until I landed a job at the Fox Soccer Channel in 2007 and I was instantly hooked.
10:55 am PST - I can't even begin to explain how excited I am right now. I have fond memories of watching the England/Portugal match in a crowded cafe where my buddies and I were having breakfast during the 2006 World Cup. I didn't know much about football back then, and my buddies knew even less, but that has since change. We are now all loyal disciples of the beautiful game.
10:38 am PST - I've been so busy posting articles all morning, I didn't even get to watch the opening match between South Africa and Mexico. :(
Fortunately, I can take a peek at fellow B/R writer Colm Larkin's live blog. :)
But first, I think I'll check out his match preview:
